Muscat International Airport (MCT) is Oman's primary aviation hub and the home base of Oman Air. Serving the Sultanate's capital, it connects Oman to the Middle East, South Asia, East Africa, and Europe. A new terminal that opened in 2018 makes MCT one of the most modern and architecturally striking airports in the Gulf region.
Muscat has one commercial airport, MCT. Oman has other airports including Salalah in the south and Sohar in the north, but MCT is the only international hub serving the capital and handles the majority of the country's passenger traffic.
MCT operates one integrated terminal, opened in 2018, handling both domestic and international flights:
MCT operates as a single integrated terminal. All passengers use the same building, with domestic and international sections connected via internal walkways. Allow at least 90 minutes for connections between domestic and international flights due to separate check-in and immigration requirements.
MCT has two runways, both capable of handling wide-body aircraft including the A380. Simultaneous arrival and departure operations are possible, supporting the airport's reliable on-time performance.
Oman offers a straightforward visa process for Indian passport holders. Here is what to know before flying into MCT:
Apply for your Oman e-Visa at least 3 to 5 days before travel.
The official name is Muscat International Airport, operated by Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC).
The IATA code is MCT and the ICAO code is OOMS.
Both are handled within the same integrated terminal. Domestic routes to Salalah and other Omani cities depart from a dedicated section within the building.
Muscat International Airport is in the Seeb area of Muscat Governorate, approximately 32 km from Muttrah, the historic city centre.
The original airport, known as Seeb International Airport, opened in 1973. The current integrated terminal opened in March 2018, replacing the old facility entirely.
