Air Mauritius is the flagship carrier of Mauritius. It is based out of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and has its headquarters at Air Mauritius Centre in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Air Mauritius came into existence on 14th June 1967. In August 1972, it started operations with a six seater Piper PA-31 Navajo aircraft leased from Air Madagascar. In 1995, the aviation company was listed on the stock exchanges of Mauritius.

The airline has won several awards, the most notable one being:

• Voted as The Leading Airline in the Indian Ocean at the World Travel Awards, 2011.  For the last seven years since 2005, the aviation company received this award

Services and Baggage Allowance

The airline offers excellent in-flight entertainment. On Airbus A330/A340 aircraft your movie library comprises of current Hollywood and Bollywood box office hits, documentaries, children's movies, and more. On board the A340-300E and the A330-200, the interactive AVOD (Audio & Video On Demand) system ensures that you get to watch movies whenever you want during the flight.

Other entertainment options include a wide range of music consisting of pop, rock, jazz, local Mauritian and classical music. On board the A340-300E and the A330-200, video games for one or more players are also available. The frequent flyer programme, Kestrelflyer lets you earn bonus miles when you fly and redeem them for various benefits.

The Air Mauritius baggage policy states that for checked-in luggage, weight of each bag should not exceed 32 kgs. The free allowance is based on European and Non-European routes.

For hand luggage, one piece is allowed if you are flying in Economy Class and two pieces if you are flying in Business Class. The weight of each piece should not exceed 7kgs and 115 cm (Length + Width + Height).
