The Hyderabad Airport, also termed as Rajeev Gandhi International Airport, started operating in March 2008. The government has partnered with a private company to operate the Hyderabad Airport. It ranks as India’s sixth-biggest Airport in the context of traffic and handles around 15 million people per year. The Airport’s world-class facilities make the experience even better. According to the Airport Service Quality Awards, Hyderabad Airport has always maintained its rank of being in the top three largest airports with a capacity of 5-15 million passengers. It had also bagged the award for environmental management in 2015.
The Airport is handling passengers more than its actual capacity. In the year 2015, this was announced by the developer that the Airport would be enlarged by the year 2022 to capacitate up to a million passengers in a year. The expansion includes extended terminal buildings, new runways, convention centre (said to be the biggest in India) and direct route by metro. In September 2018, there was an exclusive announcement on building an internal terminal for international departures.
The visit to Hyderabad Airport will be enhanced in the future as an environment-friendly business and hospitality park is being built right next to the Airport. The Airport is also being promoted to be India's first smart, Greenfield airport city which includes several facilities like aerospace, logistics, economic and health zone. It strives to become the hub of logistics in India and South Asia. The Airport already consists of India's first open and modular cargo facility with a Pharma zone, controlling the temperature. Further, the airport hosts flights from all over the country - whether it’s Delhi to Hyderabad flight, Mumbai to Hyderabad flight, or any other.

Airport Location : Shamshabad, 30 kilometres (19 miles) southwest of the city centre.
The time to travel to the city centre is about one to two hours based on the traffic.
Both domestic and international flights are operated from a single terminal.
A door-to-door luggage transfer facility is also there for all the passengers. This is an additional advantage for the passengers who carry a lot of baggage that is difficult to move. These services can be booked online too.
Both domestic and international area consists of VIP lounges and two business lounges run by the Plaza Premium. The domestic lounge has limited timings from 4.30 am to 11 pm while the international lounge is open all day. The lounges provide facilities like buffet-dining and drinking bar, first-aid, spa and shower areas, as well as a business centre.
In domestic lounges, people with credit card holders have complimentary access.
The parking facilities available there, manage the car parking, and it can hold up to 3,000 vehicles. The charges depend upon the size of the cars.
