Best Mumbai hotels for celeb spotting

When it comes to stargazing, in Mumbai it’s best to look around than above. Here are hotels where you are most likely to catch the city’s glitterati

JW Marriott

Perhaps it’s the accessible location – in the heart of Bollywood’s choice of residence, a stone’s throw from Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow – or perhaps it’s the bakery that churns out a formidable lemon tart. Either way, JW Marriott is where some of Bollywood’s biggest deals are struck. Sridevi, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone are just some of the stars who have been spotted in the lobby.

Taj Lands End

Want to spend some quality time with SRK and family? Head to Ming Yang, the Chinese restaurant at Taj Lands End, Bandra. Their chicken in chilli-coriander sauce is said to be Gauri Khan’s favourite and husband Shah Rukh Khan is rumoured to dine there at least once a month with her and the kids. Legendary Taj hospitality allows you to linger over your soup and if you are lucky, you might spot Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Rekha or Shahid Kapur.

InterContinental Hotel

Hosting one of the best views in Mumbai, the rooftop bar at InterContinental is where proposals stumble out and Nariman Point bankers pop champagne. Against Technicolor sunsets over a shimmering cityscape, and a generous stretch of the Arabian Sea, you can also nurse a cocktail and look out for Ness Wadia, Vivek Oberoi and other celebrities.

Grand Hyatt

China House at the Grand Hyatt is one of the rare suburban venues with a great bar and an equally fabulous dance floor. The club plays hip-hop and commercial hits, progressing into house as the cocktails get more and more potent. TV stars are a regular feature here, and occasionally Salman Khan has shaken his famous booty here as well. If you want to improve your odds, head up to the I-Deck, a private mezzanine level where the A-listers hang out.

Trident

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring us back wanting more. In Aamir Khan’s case, it’s a soufflé egg white masala omelette at Frangipani that has made the hotel a favourite for him. India Jones, another popular pan-Asian restaurant at this sea-facing hotel is where the actor has been spotted often.
