'At the outskirts of Shillong, you will discover the soothing waters of the Elephant Falls. It is a unique waterfall where water cascades down two tiers. This occurs because the mountainous stream of water falls down in two separate falls. The two falls are called as Wei Iaplam Falls and Wir Phang Falls. A little wooden bridge and a paved walkway will lead visitors to these two falls. Together, the waterfalls became famous as Elephant Falls because it was believed that a boulder nearby resembled an elephant. While the name caught on, this boulder could not survive the 1897 earthquake.'
