'Claude Martin, a French soldier-turned-architect, designed and built this monument. The architecture is influenced by elements of Italian design, fused with native architectural styles of Hindu and Mughal traditions. It is considered the finest and largest example of European funerary monuments in the subcontinent. Today, one of the leading educational institutions of the city, La Martiniere College is part of this beautiful campus. The whole complex is peaceful with a beautifully maintained garden. The original school is not easily accessible, with the top floors no longer open to the general public. You need a prior permission to visit the college.'
