Good experience staying at Elgin Kalimpong. The sitting area, the dining hall, the corridors are spacious and tastefully decorated. The room we were provided has a good view and well maintained. My favourites were the breakfast setting and the lounge where I enjoyed sundowner. Food taste is okayish and can be improved. The staff are courteous and attentive but probably not as much formally trained when compared with their counterparts at Elgin Darjeeling. Overall a good place to stay and recommended.

Severe Safety and Hygiene Concerns and Unprofessional Management

1/5

·

Mayank A on Apr 29, 2024

My recent stay at Elgin Kalimpong was deeply unsettling and is a cause for serious concern. What began as a promising visit quickly devolved into a painful experience due to gross negligence and an alarming lack of empathy from the staff. We were staying in room 32 at Elgin Silver Oaks. Given we found the room to be extremely extremely small, we requested for a bigger room and the manager on duty complied and gave us a new room which we are grateful for. However, what followed turned our joy into distress. The jet spray in the washroom of the new room was malfunctioning. As soon as my partner went to use the washroom and used the jet spray (bidet equivalent), boiling hot water started gushing out of the jet spray causing burns and scalds in her intimate areas. This appalling mishap underscores a grave concern regarding the hotel’s maintenance and safety protocols which are evidently lacking or poorly enforced. Further, the response from the reception was not just inadequate but also dismissive, further exacerbating the distress caused by the incident. When I went to speak to the on-duty staff at the reception his only response was that he can't help as there is nothing he can do about it. Despite the hotel’s star rating, there was no emergency medical support or transportation readily available. On pressing, the on-duty staff finally called the hotel manager who as it turns out was no less dismissive of the entire thing. The initial suggestion by the hotel manager to apply toothpaste as a remedy for a serious burn was not only absurd but also dangerously misinformed. It was only after persistent demands of transportation help to the hospital that the manager reluctantly asked the staff to help us reach the hospital in a scooter. This was extremely unprofessional and in poor taste given that the burn happened due to the hotel's negligence (of course this was an accident I am aware, but the handling was in extremely poor taste). Finally when I got really angry, the manager asked the on-duty staff to go get a taxi from the market. This lack of preparedness and empathy in handling such a critical situation is unacceptable and unbecoming of a reputed establishment. On giving credit where it's due the only thing the manager helped with was speak to the local doctor to figure which hospital we should go to. Moreover, the subsequent lack of follow-up or any gesture of concern/ apology for my partner was equally disappointing. The manager’s advice to "Go file an FIR (police complaint)" when approached for a recourse reflects a severe lack of professionalism and responsibility. I am appalled that such a heritage property is managed by staff who display a complete disregard for guest safety and comfort. This experience has not only marred our perception of Elgin but has also compelled us to advise others against staying at this establishment to avoid similar distress.

Lovely Stay for Family

The Elgin Silver Oaks in Kalimpong was a delightful stay for our family with young children. The Elgin family of hotels was able to accommodate a last minute change in reservation at our request and they did so with kindness and hospitality. Our stay at the Silver Oaks was truly outstanding. From the comfortable and spacious rooms to the gorgeous grounds, outstanding and friendly staff to the delicious food - we truly spent a lovely time wandering the grounds and exploring Kalimpong.

Pathetic service. They gave us the worst rooms! Apparently they say the early u book, the better room view you get.that is so stupid.! I paid the equal amount or maybe more since i booked closer to the date. They are not helpful at all. Beyond disappointed. They don’t entertain indians like they entertain foreigners. Atleast mention it in the booking, if room is city view, roadside, or mountain view. Evey room says mountain view and we got a roadside. Then they offered a city side. And rudely declined our request for mountain view for which i had paid. I don’t suggest this to anyone. Dont go on the pictures posted for the hotel. Its not like that.

Our second trip to this beautiful colonial hotel with great views over Kalimpong. We had a lovely room at the front of the hotel overlooking the gardens. Cleanliness was to a very high standard throughout and we enjoyed a delicious Indian meal in the evening in the restaurant. Thoroughly recommended.
