High hopes but big disappointment!

We visited this hotel on a B&B basis during the first week of May 2024. We paid in advance and, since it was a fairly expensive visit, we had high hopes for the quality of the hotel. Unfortunately we found it very disappointing. On the plus side, the room was quite spacious and modern in style with a good view of Madrid if you are on a high enough floor. The quality of breakfast was also good with plenty of choice. And the negative? Well, the hotel's website advertises a gym and spa but forget this if you object to paying an extra €30 per person per visit. I think most people would expect a decent internet speed in such an upscale hotel but forget this as well unless you are prepared to pay an 'upgrade fee' which increases the speed in your room so that it can handle video streaming. So as a business guest, please forget zoom calls or anything like that unless you want the upgrade fee on your bill. Returning to the issue of the spa, after a long day exploring the city I thought to hell with it and resolved to pay the fee. I take the elevator to the spa floor, braced to pay the €30 and they look at me like I am from Mars - apparently it isn't enough to simply pay the fee, they also need proof that you are staying in the hotel. And there I am, standing there like an idiot in swimming trunks underneath a robe. Like I walked in from the street dressed like this. Room key? Forget it. They want the little card that any hotel gives you when you check in, telling you what your room number is. You won't be surprised to learn that, inexplicably, I had omitted to bring this and so in the face of such ridiculousness I just gave up and walked away. The receptionist explained that the gym is a separate business to the hotel, hence the determination to keep riff raff like hotel guests out unless they can prove their status beyond all reasonable doubt. Which makes it especially mendacious that NH group claim the spa as a hotel facility. After such a frustrating experience I thought I would just go downstairs and have a drink. There are hotel signs indicating a 'cocktail bar' and I walked in and headed to one of the bar stools lining the bar, behind which there is the usual display of bottles. The waiter rushes over and says what are you doing? I say I am looking forward to a drink at the bar and he shakes his head. 'Oh no, this is the restaurant,' he says and tells me that the 'bar' is just the assortment of coffee tables between the reception desk and the elevators. Not exactly the "21" so once again I gave up and went to a much nicer bar a few blocks away. A couple of other minor gripes: The day we checked in, there were a couple of face flannels provided in our bathroom. The next day they disappeared and so we asked for replacements at reception and they duly arrived, then disappeared again the next day. In fact, this process repeated itself three days on the trot until I finally got wise and asked for enough face flannels to last the rest of the trip and then hid them from the cleaning staff until we checked out. If this happens to you, forget calling housekeeping with this problem - they won't pick up. Just trek down to reception and they will fix it, at least for a day. The other thing I feel I should add is that this hotel is very close to the Bernabeu football stadium which means that in the football season it is likely to be fairly busy with football fans who find it a convenient overnight stay. The hotel is markedly more busy during these days and much quieter when the football is out of town. All in all, I suspect there are plenty of other hotels in this price bracket that could offer a superior experience at the same cost. Next time we go to Madrid, I'm going to find one.

I have stayed here a few times to see football games at the Real Madrid stadium - and when it comes to location to the stadium, it can't be beaten. This time we stayed in a balcony room on the 4th floor and it was a mixed experience. The prices always go sky high for a football night, but they were off the charts for a rather basic room. None of the balconies were in any sunlight at all, and faced the opposite building. The bed is average at best and the bathroom a little dated. The hallways are really in need of attention (stained carpets) and when we were there was work going on in the lobby area. The 30 Euros a head to use the small and busy Spa with a tiny outdoor area is also very poor for the price you pay for a room. If it wasn't for the football, we would not be returning.

Excelent location, close to publc transport, surrounded of nice restaurants at walking distance. Terrific breakfast. Rooms are very good and wifi works reasonable well. Easy to get in from airport. Helpful staff.

Appalling. Major building works mean that most of the hotel is out of action and no mention of that on the website. The restaurants listed are not all available because of the building work, likewise no outside terrace. I would not have booked if I had realised. In room app is useless.

The hotel is relatively close to the Gate of Europe and far away from other attractions. The building has an ordinary appearance. Half of the windows in each room are covered by a decorative panel, which is a waste of the function of the windows. The pool highlighted in the hotel pictures requires additional payment to enter. The hotel room facilities are good, but the overall value for money is really disappointing.
