I arrived mid-day in Rishikesh at November 9th, and I knew I wanted to stay up in the High Bank village due to earlier experiences (2014). I had spoken online to an owner at another hotel, but when I arrived his hotel was fully occupied by some yoga class. So I looked around a little, and was offered a room at Mount Valley Mama Cottage for Rs. 700 per night (about €10 by late 2019). What it gets you: A double bed, a couch, a small flat-screen TV, very fast and dependable WiFi (no problems watching streams on Twitch), working hot water shower and a clean toilet. The sheets were a little worn (nothing wrong with them, just well used and sort of thinned out) and the towel had been washed in ganga water (which gives that sandy grey sort of texture on it), but I could buy a brand new top quality towel+sheets down in Rishikesh town for Rs. 900 on my second day. There are very nice restaurants and small snack shops nearby, where you can also get toothbrushes, shaving equipment, european chocolate bars and whatever your banana pancake trail follower desires might be.

mount valley mama cottage is a nice family guest house located on a hill in tapovan area, around 15-minute walk from Lexman Jula and ram jula bridges. there are 12 rooms in the guest house, in different sizes and different prices, all of them very clean and well maintained. in the evenings you can eat there a delicious home-cooked dinner (You have to ask the family 2-3 hours in advance), chai and coffee are available all day long. All in all, this is a very Calm and pastoral place with a homey and pleasant atmosphere that leaves you with a good experience and makes you want to go back there again.

The location of Mount Valley Mama Cottage is great: in a peaceful corner of High Bank, surounded by trees what helped us to stay cool at night as we traveled in june, just before the monsoon. The room was rather small for two people, but as it was a short stay we didn't really care. The bathroom is even smaller, but clean. The family who runs the place is very nice and made us feel at home.We only had brakfast at the cottage and it was good and plentifull. All in all: I will choose Mount valley Mama Cottage for my next visit to Rishikesh.

Mama and her family make your stay comfortable and relaxing😋 The rooms are clean and very well priced. Great location on the hill amongst nature and just a short walk to Ganga. There are so many things to do here like yoga and massage and rafting. Mama also cooks dinner and tea and coffee and can arrange anything you you want for an excellent price. I never want to leave

The best place to stay in Rishikesh. 'Mama' will make you feel so at home, treating you like one of the family and welcoming you with a big smile everyday. You must try her home cooked thali (which is delicious!). She will make you chai/coffee whenever you need, and have it sent to your room - the rooms are spacious with giant bigger-than-double beds, and from only 500rupee and the location is great, in a quiet street near laxman juhla with a German bakery and some yoga studios. Would definitely love to go back :)
