Flight delays made for a late arrival. But great communication and they kept the restaurant open for us. After two flights and a long drive we were ready for bed but actually with lovely staff the meal and a glass of wine was just what we needed. Beautiful hotel we were upstairs in a lovely room. Heritage in style the furnishings are perfect. It has an atrium with an indoor garden on the ground floor. So the stars are visible from inside! The staff are very friendly and great at what they do. Loved that they wear traditional dress. Front desk helped us sort a local SIM card and we soon found our way about. The beach is a short walk away and the crowds on a Saturday evening are a sight to behold. There was a Sunday market nearby with lots of stalls but still open to the mad traffic so we didn’t linger. A tuk tuk took us to the local sights but my imagined perception of Pondicherry sadly didn’t come to fruition. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant it was so good. One evening chef gave us a cooking class which was fun. Our 3 nights went in a flash and our thanks to all the staff for giving us a wonderful introduction to south India.

We arrived after travelling for about 20 hours. Two flights and a car journey from Chennai. We were quite tired but they kept the restaurant open for us and we had the most delicious meal served by friendly chatty staff. We slept like babies in our enormous antique bed. This small hotel is in the Tamil area a short walk to the beach. Tuk tuks are cheap and plentiful the best way to get around. Saturday evening sunset at the beach is a must if you people watch! Our 3 days went quickly but was probably enough. One of the staff did a henna tattoo on my hand . All of the staff seemed very happy in their work although how they do the cleaning in beautiful saris is beyond me. Our introduction to South India was pretty perfect much like the hotel itself.

A great place to stay and explore the town

This boutique hotel is based off the main roads (thankfully), and is a sympathetically restored period building. It's within the Tamil quarter as opposed to the French section, but it's within easy walking reach. It's a very tranquil, old-World space, with the restaurant area as part of the courtyard. The food is fabulous, and our room on the 2nd floor (facing the courtyard) was simplistic and sympathetically furbished. Wifi is available in the room. We spent a lot of time walking around Pondicherry - it's a lovely seaside town with strong French influence - so didn't spend that much time in the hotel (apart from breakfast and dinner), but it was a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day exploring. The staff are attentive and helpful, which helps to make the visit special. Highly recommended!

A Special Place To Stay...With a French Colonial Feel...

This small hotel is feels full of history and captures/reflects the French Colonial era. It's located in a quiet area but still within easy walk of the Promenade and the centre of Pondicherry. The atmosphere is friendly, everywhere clean and the food very authentic Indian. There is a larger sister hotel in a busier part of Pondicherry where we visited for a swim, chill-out and dinner; staying in the smaller and quieter Maison Perumal, but using the (free) facilities of the larger hotel, was the dream ticket. The staff at Perumal - Bharathi, Elby, Suresh, Malaiswamy - were all very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The Manager even gave my wife find some small salt & pepper pots which we'd searched everywhere for! (again, thank you so much - we think about our stay every time we use them in our kitchen at home!). We avoid the global chains like the plague - meaning this small, clean, personal hotel with great friendly staff and food - ticked all our boxes! Comes very highly recommended.

Stayed here for two night during our tour of South India. Of the nine different hotels we stayed in this was in our top two. This small boutique hotel has only ten rooms and ours was a large one on the first floor. The room had a quaint period style decoration and a good bathroom. However the highlight of the hotel is definitely the service and quality of the food in the restaurant. Ate two delicious dinners and breakfasts here. For a small establishment the atmosphere in the restaurant is quite buzzy, which was good. There is also a small bar, which was opened just for us on the first night. The overall feel of the hotel is homely and you feel very welcomed. The promenade is within ten minutes walking distance and contains several point of interest: Gandhi statue, French WW1 memorial, commemorative wall celebrating 75 years from independence, etc. We would love the chance to return.
