Room Was Like A Freezer

Wow, we have traveled all over the world, but this was a first for us. I had been reading TA reviews on this hotel and did not see anything about this issue. We were staying here for a wedding and went a couple of days before everyone else. We wanted to explore Miami where I was born and enjoy some time before the others arrived. When we checked in and were taken to our room, we felt like we were in a walk- in freezer. I looked around to see if there were any sides of beef hanging in the corner, it was that cold ! My husband checked the thermostat and it said 90 degrees. We then asked the bellman about it. We also noticed the plaque above the thermostat saying "to make the room warmer Please turn off thermostat". He said that was the only way the A/C worked. We immediately texted our friends, their son was getting married and they had made the arrangements. We told them to bring hats, gloves and an overcoat. She was furious, but glad we found this out before the 85 other guests arrived. She also said she was contacting the hotel in the AM to see about this. We wore the bathrobes, as we did not plan on it being cold and needing warm PJs and got under the heavy Canadian goose down comforter. We had turned the A/C off but the room was still freezing. Who knows how long it might have been vacant with the A/C going full tilt. We usually abandon those comforter as they are too hot, but boy were we glad to have it. Of course, it got warmer so we had to get up and turn it back on. What a disgraceful situation for a newly renovated hotel to do to guests. Our friend did indeed reach a manager at the hotel who verified this was the fix for the A/C. I also went to the front desk the following AM to speak to someone there. He said the same thing but added if we were still cold with the A/C off they would bring us a space heater. He gave me a BS story about people breaking the thermostats, so they had to put those signs up and not let you control the temperature. Our friend's and guests arrived with heavier clothes and were glad we were the guinea pigs that discovered this. There were very young children in the group as well. We were glad they had the proper clothing. In addition, the hallways were freezing as well as the lobby. This hotel is a cruise ship hotel. We saw 5 or 6 buses out front with hundreds of people leaving the hotel on several days we were there. We asked a few and they said they only stayed one night before their cruise. What a madhouse!! The lines to get on the elevators also crowded beyond belief. A man and his children with luggage said he had to get in as he had waited and 6 elevators were full that had stopped. We let them squeeze it. The pool is way too small for a 600++ room hotel. That said, we received turndown service when we requested, and our room was restocked with water and kept clean. Valets were nice, although they lost our car the day we were leaving. We did not eat at any of the restaurants or Starbucks as it was packed with people. We tried to get drinks from ToroToro served to us while sitting in the lobby, there was a group of us, and the bar was full. They said they were too busy. As I was shivering in our room I went back on TA and saw someone wrote about this issue. Unfortunately, I saw it too late as we were already there. I cannot recommend this hotel. Not because of the rooms or some of the services, it's just too busy with cruise ship passengers, airline staff staying there, too small of pool and not enough bar staff at Toro Toro . The food at the pool was not good either. Served in cardboard boxes. We had a cabana, as there was no way we would have gotten lounge chairs. We only stayed here because the wedding was on the boat docked right outside the hotel. That boat is noisy, we could hear music up on the 22nd floor from parties on it prior to the wedding we attended. A man mentioned it to us in the elevator when we were returned from the wedding. He had heard it in his room too. Another minus for this place.

The bar tenders are some the best you will see in the industry. Customer service is a priority with this team. Atmosphere is excellent with poolside service and a bar that offers water views. Overall, this bar is top notch. Yes, the prices are what you should expect, and they do include the 18% gratuity, but for this experience, it is worth it all.

The Intercontinental Lounge is a great place to grab breakfast, coffee, juice. It’s clean, and quiet. Food is good and plentiful. Alberto in the Intercontinental lounge on the 29th floor is the best. He is very friendly and helpful. I truly appreciate his service.

Great hotel - at a perfect location! The food/drinks were awesome - room was very neat and tidy - staff was very courteous and went above and beyond in a few instances to help us get things we needed for important customer meetings at the hotel - having a local FedEx store was a huge plus!! Highly recommend this place to anyone going for a personal or business visit to Miami beach area! Full marks! 👏🏻👏🏻 [ Sharing a few pics from my room :) ]

We had a great stay at InterContinental Maimi Downtown. Everything was top notch from the valet, front desk, the pool, Toro Toro bar and especially the Club InterContinental. Special shout out to Fabiola C. and Andre D. for making us feel welcome and special every time we entered. The chef was also amazing. We are still talking about the Coconut Rum Cake!!!! Anyone on the fence about paying for Club InterContinental, its total worth it. They had a full buffet style breakfast with lots of pastries and all the fruit you could want. The afternoon tea time was great. They had small finger size sandwiches, with a few pastries and the Happy Hour will not disappoint. Top shelf liquor, many types of beer, an excellent selection of wines from various regions and food!!! A few nights, we skipped dinner because the food was so good. Bonus - they have a machine that makes lattes and hot chocolate too. They also had a few board games (Clue, Scrabble and Monopoly) which added to the fun and the view of downtown was awesome. Great place for family and couples alike.
