The hotel is at an excellent location near a metro station, plenty of restaurants, good view of Amir Temur square, comfortable beds, friendly staff. They made us an extensive breakfast box when we couldn't make the included breakfast. The Sovjet-style building, room, and bathroom were old with classic furniture, but well-maintained and clean, with plenty of hot water in our shower.

I arrived very early at the hotel and obviously couldn't access my room. As I was leaving early the following morning before breakfast I asked if I could have a breakfast now instead of tomorrow. That way neither I nor the hotel would be losing out. It took five minutes of arguing before the receptionist relented and let me have a breakfast. It should have been automatic. They say that the hotel is a throwback to Soviet times when NO was the response to any question. I did enjoy my breakfast: a massive selection of hot and cold food, with a lounge piano player giving the place ambience. My room was far bigger than I had expected and even had a balcony. There was a small table with two occasional chairs, a desk and chair, a free-standing wardrobe and a refrigerator along with yet another table. The bed was a double and set between the main area and the bathroom, which was a bit old-fashioned, with a shower over a bath. The bedroom area was served by just one bedside light. I didn't like the wet patch on the carpet next to the big air conditioner,; and I particularly did not like the bathroom mat being wet before I had started using it. However, I think the hotel is incredible value for money, particularly considering you can listen to a real pianist playing live piano music at breakfast.

The place itself is an iconic landmark, so locating this hotel is a breeze. All modes of transport - metro to Yandex is instantly available. I solely booked a night stay during our last leg of Uzbekistan trip owing to it's heritage value and being fully aware of it's present state. I was aware that this place was undergoing renovation and majority part still due and may be very underwhelming to stay. Reception was breeze. Very well trained and professional crew, same was with luggage service. They also provided a duly signed invoice. Rooms were large. No doubt it demands immediate renovation but liveable. The initial stuffy smell took some time to go but never at disturbing level. Linens were clean and sleep quality was decent. Similar to room, bathroom was in similar state - working but need renovation. Around the hotel you can see renovation going on and they are trying to bring back it's glorious days in a new avatar. Breakfast was excellent. Clearly shows that they are used to handle guests from different parts of the world. Both the menu and taste makes you understand that they are aiming to cater to a wider guest base in a good manner. All around staff service is super. They also provide luggage storage with proper tags in a closed room. In the present state, recommended only if you have limited expectation and willing to visit or stay due to it's history and heritage. Very much willing to see it's new renovated avatar.

Hotel "Uzbekistan". City center. Ideal price - quality ratio. Traveling around the world (about 60 countries) and staying in hotels of different categories (from 3 to 5 stars), I am always surprised by people who write negative reviews and demand 3 - 4 stars service from the hotel and 5 star accommodation conditions. It doesn't happen that way. Or it happens, but very rarely. It’s the same with the Uzbekistan Hotel. There are a lot of negative reviews. Marvelous. Why did you book this hotel? Pay 4-10 times more and stay in Tashkent at Hilton, Hyatt Regency, InterContinental...etc. Don't forget to look for flaws there too. You will find them if you are faced with such a task and you do not travel and have fun, but look for shortcomings. Externally, the Uzbekistan Hotel is similar to the Cosmos Hotel (Moscow, VDNKh), and its architecture is a reasonable combination of Eastern and European styles. We liked it. Despite the negative reviews, we decided to stay here and were not disappointed. We stopped twice (at the beginning and at the end of our trip to hospitable Uzbekistan), which we do not regret. I will say more, in September we are planning a trip to Uzbekistan again. In Tashkent we will only stay at this hotel. Location: ideal for exploring Tashkent. Hotel "Uzbekistan" is located in the center of Tashkent (about 100m from Amir Temur Square and the Amir Temur metro station). Rooms. Large and spacious rooms. Available with balconies. If you need anything, ask the maid. In the vast majority of cases, your problem will be solved: a kettle, slippers/robes, dental kits, etc. Breakfast. Good breakfast, which corresponds to the hotel category. Always available and very tasty fresh seasonal fruits (then it was apricots, cherries), oriental sweets. We had no comments. There is an exchange office on the ground floor. Surprisingly, there was often a better rate there than at banks in the city. I really liked the bar on the 17th floor with panoramic windows. Magnificent views of Tashkent (see photos 6 - 8). The main thing about this hotel is the people (staff): they are simply wonderful. We would like to express special gratitude to the general manager and director of the sales and marketing department, Anna Grebenshchikova, who really helped us in solving some problems. I definitely recommend the Uzbekistan Hotel for staying in Tashkent.

We were starting to tire after walking around the sites on our first afternoon in Tashkent and thought there would be a cafeteria where we could have a drink and snack. It’s fascinating to go into these huge communist built edifices though I wouldn’t want to stay in one! Surely the facilities would have been upgraded since Soviet times? The foyer is cavernous and dated but the cafe was clearly signposted. It was very basic with hard seats. A shop selling essentials and SIM cards was also in the space but it’s more like a kiosk. Approaching the counter we could see that there was a poor selection of film wrapped pastries, unattractive cakes and packets of crisps so we didn’t order anything to eat. Enquiring about drinks we were told that there was no milk for tea so we just bought a fizzy drink from the chiller. Disappointing. There are toilets, which is handy because we didn’t see any public toilets all afternoon. We then asked at reception if they could call a taxi for us to return to our own hotel. The girl couldn’t have been more helpful and used her own phone to get us a car on YandexGo which pulled up within a couple of minutes.
