I stayed here on a conference trip and my friend came with me. We loved it but can’t review through work so I’m leaving a note of thanks here - they were happy to add an extra person to my reservation on the day, and we loved the sauna / steam room! It also has a gym and they give you a free travel pass for your whole stay. Rooms are elaborately regal but the bathroom is modern and spacious, and the beds are super comfy. Loved it!!

The Royal has been my go-to in Geneva for many years. Unfortunately I’ve had to leave the hotel after one night this time around. Be aware there is construction on all sides of the hotel, and inside too. We awoke at 1am to see the sound of drilling which had the bed shaking. We swapped to another room at 2am and noted many disgruntled guests at that time. Not the hotel’s fault but they really shouldn’t sell rooms with this level of noise. We also experienced staff entering the room without permission on two occasions and had some broken facilities in the room.

Beware construction, hidden costs, and tiny rooms...

Shockingly bad. Where to start? The tiny "executive" triple, with the pull-out sofa pushed up against the bed, with no space to navigate. (Beware use of the word "executive" when booking.) The view of ... a building. The 30 CHF buffet breakfast. The loud construction and dust in the hallway directly outside our room. The fact that our room was not ready when we checked in, after nearly 30 hours of travel. We were given another room - but had to pay extra for it, despite our room not being ready. We travel often, and rarely have we had such a terrible experience. I wanted to like this place - the location is good. Staff were reasonably friendly. Overall, though, simply awful.

Excellent hotel in a perfect location, great staff, lovely room - would stay again. Neighbourhood ok so safe place to stay, we didn't have a car so not sure on parking facilities but local transport facilities are great so no issues with getting around.

An Outstanding Experience in Downtown Geneva

I have been a frequent visitor to Geneva over the past 25 years and have stayed in many different hotels. I’ve never stayed in this particular hotel before, but after a very pleasant visit at the end of February, I don’t quite understand some of the negative comments I’ve read about it on TA, and these comments don’t quite hold water: in comparison with other four star city hotels in Geneva, the Royal is a very cozy place, very central and quite suitable for business and tourist visits alike. The room I had was very nice and comfortable, quite spacious with sufficient wardrobes and closets, even for a selective business traveler. Room was very clean and quiet, decorated with lots of taste and with a touch of luxury. True, the hotel is not new, but that gives the hotel a special charm, since it is very well maintained (and there are in fact works on the upgrade of the rooms, stairwells and corridors, so it will be even more cozy and charming in the not too distant future). The room smelled of freshness and cleanliness. Room maids operated on weekends until late afternoon, so one could get the room cleaned and tidied up even on Sunday early evening. Lobby area is quite large, nicely arranged and very suitable for business meetings or for having a glass of wine with your colleagues in the evenings. Excellent retro-bathroom with plenty of good quality toiletries, bathrobes, and plenty of towels. Importantly for me, there was a Nespresso machine in the room and friendly staff provided as many capsules that I needed. Tea and water were also available in the room. There is a nice working table in the room, and there is a fast internet connection so I was able to work on my documents on Saturday and Sunday. Bed was very comfortable, pillow selection was awesome. Ironing area is located on the second floor in the backside of the hotel - new and huge ironing board and a new iron; you activate the iron with your room card. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk from the central railway station and easily accessible when flying into Geneva. Just a 10 minute walk to the Geneva lake front and within 20 minutes walk of the old town. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity of the hotel; a nice Italian restaurant just 50 meters on the left from the hotel, working even on weekends until 22:00. A good choice of hot and cold items for breakfast, all freshly prepared; there is a possibility to order items that were not on display. I also ate in Le Bistro during my stay; very good cuisine and excellent selection of wines. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Check in-check out was done in a matter of minutes. Porter took care of the luggage (I had two suitcases) and while I was checking in (and out) the luggage was taken care of. All in all - an outstanding experience in the downtown Geneva.
