Hotel Elba Madrid Alcala continues to be our go to Madrid destination!!

An excellent stay. This is my fourth time staying in this hotel and it continues to shine. The Elba team does a great job of running this property efficiently while insuring a welcoming atmosphere with great attention to detail. We stayed in a suite and recommend one if you're traveling as a couple and want a bit more room to spread out. This property has two suite configurations and both have much going for them. There's a room divider (sliding doors) configuration that has a closet to die for as well as a multi-stream high-tech shower (along with a traditional shower/tub combination. The second configuration connects the bedroom and living room with a hallway and a traditional bathroom setup. This configuration is a bit better if one of the travelers needs to work and not disrupt the other (even a little). Both have televisions in both bedroom and living room areas, mini bar, coffee maker, kettle, etc. Linens and towels are as excellent as one would expect in a four-star hotel in a major city. The neighborhood is not oppulent but that adds to the charm. There's two to three dozen restaurants and bars nearby ranging from two highly rated restaurants (one Italian and one Peruvian) and all in-between (for Americans and Canadians, there is a KFC, a Burger King, a Taco Bell, and a Tim Hortons all nearby if you should crave fast North American food.) There are two Metro stations nearby and both are on line five. Travel to the Ventas neighborhoos (bullring, bullfighting themes taverns, and assorted shops) is less than ten minutes by Metro. The center of Madris is about twenty minutes by Metro. There is a great 100+ year old park (Quinta de los Molinos) a couple of blocks away with ample open space and trails should you need to decompress. Highly recommend this hotel as our go-to property when in Madrid!!

Stay near to the airport

The hotel is located on Calle Alcala near the underground (Cuidad Lineal), it is far from the city centre but is convenient if you want to stay near the airport. The rooms are ok but the air conditioning did not work properly, if you have a sunny room you can die because it is crazy hot. I had to keep the shutters closed all day and use the blackout curtains all the time. The staff are really friendly and the restaurant service is super good, I had a tortilla de patata and mosto. The food was good too and they have good beer. They only provide shampoo, body wash, toothbrush and towels In addition to the kettle, tea and coffee.

Very fine 4 star hotel

We only spent two nights here in February, 2024 but found the hotel exceeded our expectations. We've been to Madrid many times and usually stay either near the airport or in the central area. But this hotel popped up with an excellent price for a 4-star hotel in Madrid so we gave it a try. Please note that I am very price sensitive in Madrid since it's the most expensive city in Spain--but I still like a nice hotel. It's quite conveniently located--there's a lot of essentials nearby. Restaurants and two Metro stations. Please don't mistake my "convenient" description for being close to central Madrid. It's still quite a ways on the Metro to get there. But we didn't need to be central on this trip. The hotel itself was nicer than I was expecting. I've never stayed at an Elba hotel before and don't see them popping up much but I see there are a few of them and will certainly consider staying at another one again--including this one! Now if I can just avoid that 4am check-out to go to the airport ;-)

Inconceivable on several levels

Payment in advance at check-in. Unhygienic bed sheets, defective toilet door (kept opening completely by itself and could also be locked), no toilet brush and a defective hairdryer. I asked at reception on the first day for this to be rectified. Nothing changed until my departure. Bar several days in a row without the usual last call instead rude ejection without reason. We were quiet and peaceful.

Poor service

2/5

·

Cormaic M on Nov 15, 2023

I thought the service was extremely poor. Apart from I would say a handful of bar staff. I travelled to Spain for the first time with my mum and on our first night a gentleman who was working on the I would say Sunday night. My mum wanted to go up and rest and I thought I would surprise her with a glass of wine so I brought myself up a beer also. I know some Spanish but my espanyol is extremely poor. The guy hands me 2 wine glasses which equaled a pint. I explained could I have this in a pint glass and he refused quite rudely and poured my drinks down the sink and cut me off? Oh and he still charged me for it. Previously we only had 2 drinks with dinner and we were still tired from travelling from Belfast - Dublin then onto Spain then metro. You could imagine we were still exhausted at this rate. I got extremely anxious and rang my mum to come down as he was arguing with me in Spanish which caused a guy from reception to come over and thought that this was a big joke and laughed in my face. I stated, “could I please have my money back and once again he refused. Then on the day of checkout we where hit with a bill of €37 15 of that was these drinks that we never got?! Then on another occasion we where awaiting an Uber to Atletico Madrid’s stadium to watch the game and my mum asked for a sprite with her wine and this EXTREMELY RUDE woman shouted in my mum’s face “NO”! My mum and I were astounded at her behaviour and thought she was joking. So then I went up and got the same reply and then she started arguing with me in Spanish? Her associate came over and apologised that they had no sprite and said that there was no sprite only Fanta lemon. My mum said that’s fine I just don’t get why she was so ignorant. Then the next day at breakfast if looks could kill we would not have made it home. She pushed in front of me and my mum all the while I was carrying hot drinks just so she could clear a table and I get that but there is ways and means to go about things. Apart from these 2 members of staff I believe the rest where lovely. Especially the kind girl who served us for the last couple of nights who took time to get our Google translate along with her friend. There was also a guy with glasses like myself who was also very kind. But I’m sorry I have to rate the service as poor because of what we experienced and unfortunately the good staff in the hotel have to suffer with this bad review and to them I apologise profusely. I do not know if this was because of background but we felt we where getting treated differently than other guests. Although some of our time was lovely and great to recharge before Christmas but if the staff were more welcoming and friendly then it would have been pleasant. Madrid itself is a lovely city but I would not recommend more than 3/4 nights here as not much to do. They also advertise a garden but this was locked only all 7 nights I was here. Which I found weird?
