The selling point for me was the pool and gym. I believe the pool was closed and the gym was located in another hotel. Being a solo traveller I wanted the gym to be on site so I could go early on a morning or later in an evening. I appreciate this wouldn’t be an issue for everyone but I found the advertising/images to be slightly misleading. I booked a double room and received two single beds pushed together. The beds slid apart a couple of times and by the last night it begun to mildly aggravate an old back injury. Upon check in I was offered a room with a view, however this was not the case. The bathroom tap was also glued together however the room was clean and staff were pleasant. Overall the stay fell a little short of my expectations.

The Derby is a lovely hotel with very clean rooms and excellent customer service. I upgraded to a room with a private patio and it was a perfect addition with the sunny, warm weather. The breakfast service was excellent with a good selection of food. The Derby also has beautiful art that you can tour while staying in the hotel. I really enjoyed my stay.

Good hotel but be aware for the construction works

This hotel deserves its four stars although it starts to feel a bit tired. My medium score results from the construction works that woke me up the first morning at 07.00 a.m. I requested and got a room on a higher floor and at the back of the building. Staff wove away my suggestion to at least indicate the inconvenience on the booking sites (“not every day, can be ready shortly etc.”). Further fine: rooms are quite spacious, airco has low noise levels, fine bathroom with good sized bathtub, friendly staff.

The location was very convenient with an access to two metro stations where you can easily transfer to the downtown Barcelona. Especially, its breakfast was one of the best ones with hot food options.
