Terrible stay at The Britannia Hotel, Rome

We stayed in the junior suite for 3 nights from April 10. Before the Covid we stayed in one of your standard room. It was very small so this time we upgraded to the junior suite hoping for better. While the reception desk provided excellent services but the junior suite was a total disappointment! The entire suite felt dusty and aged. All the furniture (including the mirrors) was dated, old and dirt-stained especially for the 2 sofas and 2 foot rests. It was not as shown on the hotel website. The service people never try to clean them up and make them presentable. The AC did not work properly in the sitting area. It took a long time to cool off the area. Surprised that no free bottle water was even offered. The inferior complimentary sparkling wine was terrible but a bit better than the complimentary welcome drink which was warm and stale. The room service people did not replenish the coffee powder, sugar, milk, toilet papers and tissue papers daily. We had to ask for them everyday! The terrace door was left unlocked for unknown reasons when we checked in. We did not use the terrace including the outdoor furniture because it was very dusty and dirty. No paper cups for brushing teeth. No small face towels either. The room service people did not take away dirty glasses, and we didn't get clean ones for our entire stay. The toilet flush buttons were installed incorrectly which caused them to stuck together so the water was running non- stop. The cold water faucet of the bathroom sink was loose and it did not work properly. The printed instructions to operate the safe is incorrectly. Mentioned it to the service people but they care less. The free breakfast was marginal at best which reminded us the free one at the Holiday Inns Express. For the transfer to the airport the driver demanded 55 euros, not 50 euros as per Reception Desk. No porters to help with luggage when checking in and checking out going up the steep stairs to the street leve. Just to name a few ... It was our 6+ trip to Rome. For such accommodation it was ridiculous to pay US$400+ per night. We definitely will not return,

Bad Hotel Chain

Went to a Britannia hotel and was dirty, underparts, over priced! Made a complaint to hotel, they asked for pictures and since been ignored! Asked on Socials to address this also been ignored. They have scabby, broken rooms and think they can overcharge people and then ignore them when there is a problem. Absolutely disgusting.

Perfect location, close to all tourist attractions by walk and despite being close to busy street, it's quiet inside, you can't hear city noise at night. Clean, little hotel, I wouldn't hesitate to come back when visiting Rome. Staff is amazing, extremely helpful. Everything was perfect.

Very nice hotel in the centre of Rome

This hotel is perfectly positioned to see the city of Rome. The staff who work in the hotel are excellent, so welcoming and helpful they make this hotel what it is. We stayed in a small room, it was enough but if you like a little more space you might want to go for one of the bigger rooms. Our bathroom did have a wee bit off a smell but it wasn't overpowering I think it lacked ventilation. I had asked for a twin, quiet room and they hotel honoured that for me, although we were on the 2nd floor so on the 3rd night obviously someone moved in above us and they were really heavy footed, not the hotels fault though and it didn't bother me too much. The beds were comfy and you can choose your pillows if you want too. The room had a kettle, fridge, air conditioning and everything you need for your stay. We had breakfast included and it had a variety or things to eat something for everyone I would say. They have a small bar and you get a welcome drink on arrival which is a really nice touch, we were going to miss breakfast our first morning there so they arranged a breakfast bag for us to have before our trip. The hotel is down a side street and although it might look a bit sketchy I assure you we had no problems with anything or anyone. The hotel offer a number of free walking trips which unfortunately we did not have time to use but worth looking at. The termini is only about 5 mins from the hotel and taxis can be ordered by the hotel to take you anywhere you need and they arrive within a few mins all fairly cheap. All in all I would recommend this hotel and would definitely return here should I visit Rome again. Its not a 5 star joint and has a few wee flaws but for the price, what you get and where it is located its worth 5 stars to me. Thank you to the reception team and others who made our stay really enjoyable.
