Excellent front desk staff. Manuel especially was very friendly + helpful during our stay. Many thanks for your bubbly personality. There is a nice B1 guest lounge for early arrivers, etc to use. The hotel is in a pleasing location and is only a 5-10 min flat walk from two MRT Red line stations. There are lots of varied eating venues nearby from high end, to street food. The std room was very pleasing. Ultra clean and mostly well set up. The easy to use, in unit washing machine was a key reason that we booked our 4 night stay here, after an Intrepid Tour of Taiwan. The separate walk in shower and bath were appreciated, as were the very nice towels. We however found the 4 bed pillows supplied to be too soft. We had to ask for 1 suitcase stand; as there are no useful locations to otherwise get a large case off the floor. Why not supply one in the room (or better still 2 stands) from the start? If the hotel room design was really that good, this would either not be needed or could be left in the cupboard for all future guests. A true 5 star rated hotel to me (and we spend approx 100 nights travelling the world each year) would also have some wall hooks or a hat stand with hooks. Travellers have hats, coats that may need to dry / air and bags that we want to hang up (not in the cupboard that has to be kept closed at night to turn off the cupboard light). The in room cooking facilities for a westerner are also somewhat limited. The rice cooker was not needed by us and the filter coffee dispenser with no supplies was equally redundant. The microwave really needs an English summary sheet for easier use by westerners. There are two metal pots for hotplate use. The two flat eating plates supplied however are too big to rotate in the microwave and it would be more helpful to supply a suitable ceramic, microwave cooking container with a lid, for world travellers. This was in room #506 for a 01 Dec arrival. Again we booked this apartment hotel to mostly self cater after two weeks on a tour. The large fridge with a good sized freezer was also thus appreciated. There is a basement located Carrefour supermarket about 5-10 minutes walk to the west. The hotel well deserves its many recent positive reviews. Using Agoda, etc unfortunately should get you a better stay rate than booking direct. Why? Happy to book direct if you matched the web bookers and then you would not have to pay them their commission. A win - win. The hotel will charge such external bookings a $4000 NTD credit card hold that will be returned on your departure. A very solid 4.5 stars despite the annoyances.

Gloria Residence is not a typical hotel. It doesn’t offer daily housekeeping services yet has all the amenities you would need in an apartment - a well equipped kitchenette, a washer/dryer machine, a large closet, etc. Our room was very clean, including the space behind the bathroom vanity. The lounge has a drinking water dispenser for travelers who need to refill their water bottles.

Revisited Taipei after five years and found the perfect hideout for good rest and impeccable service at the Gloria Residence which is strategically located between two metro stations, the Taipei yellow bike scheme at Kangle Park and many shops and eateries. The rooms consist of a small living room with desk and sofa, a bedroom, a bathroom with tub, shower and Japanese toilet, plus a kitchenette to prepare small meals. Internet works flawlessly and at high speed. On the balcony there’s a washing machine which is absolutely functional in the sweaty summer weather. The silence in the room was an absolute blessing. Staff is well trained, very friendly and flexible offering a 2 PM late checkout. The indoor swimming pool was the cherry on the cake, allowing for my exercise to continue as at home. In short, highly recommended, I will come again to enjoy this oasis in charming Taipei!

I stayed at Gloria Residence for my first Taiwan trip at Taipei. The front desk team have been very helpful, from foreign currency exchange to local transportation, helping with concert ticket booking with local cell phone. I would be happy to stay here for my next trip at Taipei.

Okay residence hotel in Zhongshan

I think the LeoFoo Residence is a better value. The Gloria is located further north in Zhongshan, whereas the LeoFoo is near Nanjing and Zhongshan Rds, a nicer neighborhood. The Gloria rooms are configured a bit unusual, with the living and kitchen areas being a bit narrow Also the hotel does not offer any breakfast. And the room does not have complete blackout drapes, so the AM light woke me up. The Gloria does have a huge common area on the lower level, which is great for impromptu meetings and relaxing. Given the prices for both hotels is usually the same, I'd say the LeoFoo is better value.
