OK Despite Renovation/Construction

This is a difficult review since the hotel is under renovation. The people working at the hotel were all very friendly and did their best to help us out. We had issues as described below. I must give the hotel a 2-star rating right now but would give the staff a 5 out of 5. Once the renovation construction is finished, it might be a 3 ½ to 4-star property. We stayed 3 nights the first weekend in May. I read the reviews regarding the renovation/construction issue but we were part of a wedding party so I kept the reservation. Most of the construction in the rooms and common areas is done. The pool was not open and neither was the workout room. Our room had a new carpet and sink. The tub was still old. The beds were nice and comfortable. The linens and pillows were very nice. We had water issues as the main hot water heater failed for about 5 hours Friday. We were lucky it was repaired within 5 hours so we could take showers before the rehearsal dinner! Our sink stopped up twice and after rodding it leaked a little. We just put a towel down to sop up the water. The ice machine on the first floor worked. The others did not and there was major leakage in the 2nd floor ice machine area. The hotel needs a sign on the main road at the entrance to the front desk area. There is a sign for the hotel on the main road but it is in the middle of the property rather than at the entrance to the parking and drive-up area. Also, there are no signs directing one to the hotel rooms in the various wings of the hotel. You just have to guess to locate your room. Maybe they will put room directions on the floors later. An odd thing about the hotel is that the elevator is in the back of the hotel far from the front desk. The corridor is very long. It is almost like a Vegas hotel! It was quite a walk taking our luggage to the elevator on the carpeted floors. Later in our stay we parked in the rear of the hotel nearer the elevators. I’d give this hotel another try when the renovation/construction is finished. Once again, the people working there were all friendly and helpful!

Disappointing at best

If Marriott would have been honest from the beginning and told us that the property was under renovations, we would have taken that into consideration but there was ZERO mention of it when we booked. So many problems at this property but here are my highlights: SAFETY - the “key entry only” side door is broken so anyone can walk right in. By the way, this particular door faces the busiest street around the hotel. Incomplete - Don’t rent a room if it is not ready just because you want the money. We were lucky to get a “renovated” room, however, the bathroom door does not shut and can not shut as the old rusty hinge hardware from the 90’s prevents the door from at least appearing closed as the hinge makes the door bounce open. Any contractor or employee in their right mind would have noticed this flaw during reno or cleaning. When flushing the old nasty toilet, it was so close to overflowing, I had put a towel around the bottom just in case. The new shower and shower door is great but you can not turn on the shower without getting drenched with freezing water. You would think this design would be fixed if you want this property to be great, not just okay. Thank God we were only staying one night. Look Marriott, either close the place down and complete renovations without your loyal customers suffering or give us a heads up that this hotel is a disaster BEFORE we book. Is that too much to ask??

Bad experience with partying group in next room.

When we checked in we asked for a quiet room since we were making a long trip and needed to rest. Unfortunately the clerk on duty put us next to some young girls that were there to party. They had loud music and people coming and going into the night. I complained to the clerk and who said she would take care of it. After another hour of nothing changing I finally went back to the desk and demanded another room. Fortunately another clerk (Sophie) was on duty and she immediately moved us to another room far from the party and sent someone to handle the group that was causing the disturbance.

Yikes this place is old news. People having a smoke sesh next to the tiny parking lot when I arrived. 90’s carpet and room decor. Shower only cranked out half the water and the rest trickled out the tub spout. Rust on the door frames. Toilet just as old and needs flushed twice just for #1. Seriously a new toilet costs $200 and takes 30 min to install. This place doesn’t have any self pride.

Layout does NOT work for senior citizens

This Courtyard is clean and the staff are friendly. But the decor is dated and the layout is awful. There is one elevator to serve 240+ rooms on three levels—not conducive to handling luggage. And the elevator is not centrally located: it is at one end of the hotel, and lobby/common areas are at the other end. My room was located directly over the lobby, two flights up. That meant I had to walk the length of the hotel to the other end, take the elevator down, walk to the lobby, get breakfast, walk back to the elevator, take it back up, and walk back to my room. With two bad knees, a bad hip, and a bad back, the stairs were not an option for me outside of a fire alarm. This layout may work for young families, but not for senior citizens.
