Very unhelpful receptionist but great hotel

Stayed at this hotel previously and had a very positive experience. Booked via Groupon for B&B standard room with Blue light discount. On arrival the receptionist was unhelpful in the extreme, very unfriendly and verging on rude. By comparison my friend and myself are smiley and friendly and normally get the same response! Not letting this spoil our much anticipated weekend away we went to the room. On opening the door it smelt very strongly of smoke mixed with a musty smell and the room was dark and really awful. Returned to reception and explained to a different receptionist our displeasure with the room and she immediately apologised and changed our room. This room was a 100% improvement and we quickly unpacked our bags and got on with our day. On returning much later we went to the bar to order a drink and the bar manager actually remembered me from my last visit which was very impressive! We sat in the conservatory area overlooking the water which was really nice and relaxing. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and staff replenishing the food and clearing away tables quickly. This hotel need a big investment and is the sole reason that a hotel by the river in Canary Wharf is so cheap. But if you get a good room it is an absolute gem and with the exception of our initial encounter with the first receptionist all staff were really professional, hard working and helpful. SIMPLY APPALLING even DOG POO outside premises

First appearance at front of hotel large skip with a lot of dog poo by the side of the skip even when we arrived a woman was letting her dog poo there , went in told the receptionist she said its the same every day !!! , Food was appalling , service horrendous , room stunk of smoke , sheets had a musty smell , do not want to carry on , we complained to management when you could find them left early and got a full refund

I booked this hotel short notice for the bank holiday weekend as I was going to the 02 and there were changes to the late trains. It was ideal for what we wanted- the hotel is just a few minutes walk from Canary Wharf Station (02 is just one more stop) the reception staff were pleasant and we got checked in quite quickly. Our twin room was small but more than adequate for our needs- it was clean and the beds were comfortable and had everything for our over night stay. One little gripe the plug to the kettle is low so I had to boil the kettle on the floor. It was a window less room but don’t be put off by this it was still light and there is air con. I paid extra for breakfast which was good value for money. I would definitely stay again and would recommend for a 1/2 night trip especially if you’re going to the O2.

Horrible. Hotel dated and scruffy. Bathroom door had vulgar graffiti scratched onto it. Breakfast limited and coffee undrinkable. Appears not to have been modified since the 1980’s. Can’t believe this is four start… more along 2 star lines. Will not be returning o recommending.

Rooms have been painted but... tub chair has the bottom out of it hanging down underneath, no handle on the chest of drawers, phone didn't work. Furniture has seen better day. Staff were great but room wasn't serviced so had to ask for loo rolls,tea etc. Tiles cracked in the bathroom, dirty windows clearly someone has stood at the window and has their mouth on the glass, green around the tap. Shame as in a great position paid £321 for 2 night accommodation during the marathon cost an extra £50 to park. I know london is expensive but. BRITANNIA INVEST IN YOUR HOTELS
