We stayed for two nights this last weekend. We booked the lowest cost room rate, only to find that these rooms are all the ones directly next to the elevators/vending machines. We luckily were able to switch rooms, but it would have been nice to know what we were booking initially. The building just needs a remodel (hopefully in the next couple of years). We felt like it was very overpriced for the condition of the outdated building. The positives: Very friendly and kind staff. Location is fantastic.

We stayed at the Sands for 4 nights while visiting Vancouver to visit family and enjoy the City. The Hoel was perfectly located next to English Bay and Stanley Park. The Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable.

Avoid unless you're prepared to book the whole hotel

Our experience was terrible. We stayed a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night and the Friday and Saturday were a nightmare. Some group of late teens had booked out 65 rooms in the hotel and proceeded to use it as if they owned the place. Now I'm pretty patient; wont complain unless noise is after 10 pm EXCESSIVE etc. But this was ridiculous. They were blasting music in their rooms with the doors open, yelling up and down the hallways from room to room, slamming doors, and running up and down the hallways. We waiting until 10 pm to see if they'd quiet down (this started probably around 6 or 7 pm) and they didn't, continuing on as if the hotel was their own personal club. We finally called the front desk just before midnight on the Friday night and they sent security to come and ask them to quiet down which they did SLIGHTLY. I think they eventually went out. Saturday was no better, the same story over again. Finally in the early morning hours of Sunday my husband went to the front desk and was told that the group had booked out 65 rooms so there was nothing they could do. So the moral here is your $300+ a night isn't worth anything to Best Western Plus unless you apparently take over the hotel. It's unfortunate because the location was great and the room was fine, but not only would I hesitate to stay here again, I'd hesitate to stay with Best Western again too.

We recently had a quick stopover in Vancouver on our way home to Australia after a cruise. This hotel is in a great location, close to Stanley Park, the beach and lots of eateries. The staff were super friendly and the rooms are spacious.

5 Star Staff and great location - but significant room for improvement

We stayed for a week at Best Western Sands in Vancouver. The location is excellent - probably one of the best locations we've ever stayed in Vancouver. The lobby is very tiny - no room at all to sit and chill. Front desk staff were amazing throughout our entire stay - all of them!!! Some family stayed in another room and we also requested a room change, so we got to see the various room types. #227 - At the end of the hall near English Bay - double pane windows (it seems floor 1 & 2 facing street side have double pane windows. This room has a nice sitting shelf at the window. Very nice room. #322 - (or any floor near that number) is very close to the elevator - Because the doors to the hallway (some of them) have large gaps, you can easily hear people chatting at the elevator. #REAR - Rooms at rear only have single pane windows but are still quiet. #508 - Street facing balcony room. Even though the windows are single pane, street noise is ok. This room is also near the end of the hall away from the elevator. Ours had an adjoining room. If you could get a 5th floor room near the end of the hall that did NOT have an adjoining room, this would be a good choice. Pets: This is a very pet friendly hotel. One of our group that is asthmatic had significant allergic reactions in the first 2 rooms. Hotel staff did their best to accommodate (switch rooms), however various staff were unclear on where pets were permitted and not permitted. (Hotel staff were contacted several times in advance of arrival to request a non-Pet room, but the person with the allergy was given 2 different rooms at first that were (it seems) pet friendly. We were told that pets (and even children) are not permitted in the balcony rooms on the 5th floor for safety reasons. What we liked: Clean Mini fridge very good Microwave Telephone (a real one!) 42inch? Tv Desk chair 3 good lamps Nespresso machine Very comfortable beds Nice linens and towels Hairdryer yes Water temperature and pressure good To improve: No USB outlets Almost 1inch gap under hall door (some doors have a seal at the bottom and some don't) Window air conditioner loud Mini shampoo bottles as opposed to dispensers No safe Some adjoining rooms on 5th floor - you can easily hear noisy neighbors TV has an unconnected input panel at the desk in some rooms Heater in room is weak - just a single baseboard unit Bathroom exhaust fan weak and not controllable **Slamming doors, no quiet close feature - this was our biggest annoyance. None of the rooms we saw had a soft close feature, thus loud banging of doors, almost vibrating our walls was quite jarring and annoying. These 6 improvements would be great - Good quality soft close feature on all doors - Good seals consistently on all door bottoms to hallway - Double pane windows on all rooms - Improve room to room soundproofing with adjoining rooms - Improve pet room allocation or at least clarify the pet zones on the web site Other Small gym - no gym mats
