We had a couple of days in Athens before heading to the Greek islands. I did a lot of research and watched several travel videos. At the end decided to book the Intercontinental and was not disappointed. The options closer to the Acropolis were expensive and clearly not as nice. Yes, it is not inside the tourist part of the city and a taxi to and from will cost you around 6 euros and takes you 10 mins. However, not being inside the busy tourist neighborhoods allows some piece and quiet and a great stay with spacious rooms, good all-around service, and faster access to the airport. Overall, a better hotel at a much more attractive rate. I would happily stay here again when visiting Athens again. However…a small bottle of Coca Cola is 9 euros. This is the most absurd overpriced anything I have ever seen in my life! Very upset a hotel even has the courage to charge this amount when in any high scale restaurante in the city it is less than half that price!

The hotel is strategically located in the city. About a 45 minute drive from the airport. The rooms are very nice. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The bar area is great. The breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of options.

We are a family of three adults. We stayed there for 5 days. The package included breakfast but the food remained the same every day. The price performance was OK but it was not the same quality of other intercontinental hotels, not 5 stars at all. So don’t expect too much or any smile from the front desk, the restaurant or the concierge. When we were there, the swimming pool was closed due to not yet the high season. There were some other charges like room service and city tax €10/day besides the hotel tax. I thought if they should have to inform the guest before or during the check in, miscommunication would not be occurred. We ordered a burger which cost €25, we paid €5 for tips. Then during the check out, we found that they charged another €5 for service charge, which wasn’t shown in the bill before; otherwise we shouldn’t be paying total €10 for a €25 burger. Anyway, I would not rate high in this hotel. But it was not bad though.

Great hotel, don’t take hotel taxis to the airport

The hotel is great. Nothing to complain about. Huge rooms, clean, and up to InterContinental standards. One thing to note, if you go to the airport, make sure you use Uber or FreeNow. Do not take the taxi from the hotel. The taxi charged me $50 while it would cost around $40 if I used Uber/Freenow. The meter showed $40 but the driver insisted that the hotel is outside of central Athens and the flat rate was $50 (the hotel is less than 1km away from the city center). The hotel concierge confirmed that the charge was reasonable. So don’t use the taxi to the hotel!

We absolutely loved our stay at the InterContinental Athenaeum Athens, my wife and I stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate her birthday. Reception was very efficient and friendly we were taken by guest relations to the Club Lounge for check in, this private check in at the lounge was a personalised welcoming experience. Our upgraded room was a One King Bedroom Suite with living area it was perfect very spacious and in good condition although decor is slightly-dated it could do with some refurbishment to achieve a more modern, luxurious and stylish space. Everything was very clean and tidy. The bed and pillows were comfortable, excellent quality bedding. Air-conditioning worked well. The tv was an old model and took a long time before it worked, screen was blurred. The bathrooms were nice and a good size, good lighting and extremely clean with luxury toiletries by Byredo in the Bal D'Afrique scent, good sized towels. The gift of a cake from the hotel for my wife's birthday was a lovely and appreciated gesture. The Club lounge is temporarily relocated to the Premiere restaurant on the 10th floor, whilst upgrading the facilities at the Club InterContinental. The view of the Acropolis is spectacular, especially when it is lit up at night. The evening drinks reception was excellent and the service in lounge was fantastic. Enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at Cafezoe offers an extensive breakfast experience featuring great quality food options both hot and cold, a bountiful feast including local Greek cuisine to standard international options. We had delicious omelettes made to order by the talented chef. Freshly squeezed juices and lovely coffee. Mouthwatering high-end desserts especially the Homemade Twix bars these caramel chocolate shortbreads were incredible. I highly recommend getting breakfast it was a highlight and the staff were outstanding extremely attentive and very friendly. Location was excellent walking distance to a subway station. I would very much recommend this hotel.
