MOST HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE OF LIFE (KEPT HOSTAGE BY OWNER AND HAVE TO LEAVE AFTER ONE DAY OF CHECKIN) – GOONS HOUSEBOAT

1/5

·

Peeyush B on May 27, 2024

IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE - PLEASE DONT GO IF GOING WITH FAMILY, I AM PLANNING TO RAISE AND FIR AGAINST THE OWNER. WHAT WENT WRONG - - Due to maintenance they have kept the full houseboat wide open. Later the staff left the houseboat without closing it and informing any of us. I was with a small kid and it was not at all safe. - After few hours when we started raising the voice suddenly they closed the floors and didn't told us that the leakage/ maintenance was properly done or not. - Staff wasn't all all supportive till the time we started raising our voices, as they were just trying to mint extra money from us for food and other services. - When i put a complaint to goibibo for the same, next day owner called me with all the abusive words in his mouth and asked me to leave and tried to threaten me. - Upon reaching the houseboat i though i will just leave the place, the owner along with 7-8 more locals came to houseboat and started shouting on me and TRIED TO KEPT ME AS HOSTAGE TILL THE TIME I SIGN A PAPER THAT I AM LEAVING ON MY OWN AND ALSO DELETING THE VIDEO WHICH WE HAVE MADE WHEN HE WAS SHOUTING ON US. WE HAVE ALSO KEPT A AUDIO RECORDER WHICH RECORDED THE WHOLE EVIDENCE AND HAVE SENT THE AUDIO / VIDEO RECORDING TO GOIBIBO FOR TAKING FURTHER ACTION. PERSONAL ADVICE: DONT GO TO THIS HOUSEBOAT NOT JUST FOR THIS INCIDENT WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR FAMILY TRAVELLERS BUT FOR OVERALL HYGENE WHICH YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES ATTACHED. Sharing chronology below for everyone. Day 1 During our stay, we were not supported well during the checkout process. Shortly after checking in, some maintenance work began, which was clearly an issue that had existed prior but was hidden from us. The boat was also found to be leaking, putting our safety at risk. The entire boat was left open even when my family members were in their rooms, essentially trapping them. After inquiring about when the maintenance would be completed, as the worker had left everything open for 4-5 hours, it was only after I applied pressure that they hastily closed the houseboat covers, without confirming if the leakage had been resolved. I have since filed a complaint on Goibibo, providing photographic evidence of these issues. Day 2: It was normal morning as we did our breakfast and left for outing to Sonmarg, While returning from there the owner of the houseboat called me around 5:15 PM on my way back, The call first received by my brother-in-law as my phone was with him, when he talked rudely and hung up. Later i called him back.. The houseboat owner was speaking very rudely and using abusive language that I cannot even repeat. He was yelling at me, accusing me of posting negative things about his houseboat on Goibibo. He threatened that if I did not check out immediately, he would throw my luggage off the boat. Immediately, I called the Goibibo team to inform them about the incident. I expressed my concerns about potential danger. The Goibibo representative advised me to go to the houseboat, retrieve my luggage, and then they would make any further calls to the owner. Given the rude and threatening manner in which the houseboat owner had spoken to me, I decided it was best to leave the accommodation as soon as possible. Day 2 Evening: When I reached the houseboat, although I had left my mother, wife, and 2.5-year-old daughter in the cab for safety reasons, the owner along with 7-8 other people came and started yelling at me. You can see in the attached video and audio the way he was yelling and asking me to sign a paper stating that I am leaving on my own reasons/responsibility and delete the review and video which my sister-in-law was making. (you can find reference of her calling pattu which is her name at home) - You can hear in the video they was the owner (the old man wearing black pullover- in the video) was yelling and shouting on my sis-in-law as well. - You can clearly hear the guy saying (app mujhe likh ke dedo ki main apni marzi se jaa raha hu). - In the whole discussion on audio you can hear me and my brother-in-law was trying to keep the things calm down as we were sensing the gravity of the situation considering it was very outer area of Srinagar and the guy had called 708 people from his side. So we were just trying to leave from the place taking all the belongings of ours. - When he was boasting about the checkin process i have told him about our luggage which were kept on the outside stairs. Then you can hear the way the owner was saying should i keep them on my head. - At around 4.40 minutes you can hear the voice of slider which they were trying to close when i immediately fell shocked and asked then that i can write anything what they want. I though that was the best was to leave this place. - I even tried to calm down my sis-in-law when she panicked after seeing that they are trying to lock us inside the houseboat,. I immediately told her to stop as i didn't want ay escalation there. I even tried to laugh in between to keep the things down. - At around 7.50 in the audio i even told them that it was wrong at their part that they were locking me inside. - I also lied them that i cannot delete the reviews as i wanna leave that place asap, considering that whole process will take another 5-10 mins. Which i was not at all comfortable spending there. - In the end more more guy came smiling and asked me to come inside his houseboat and talk when i told them that my daughter, mother and wife are waiting for me in the cab and i need to leave the place asap then only all of them vacated the stairs for me to go. - Finally when we were leaving the houseboat we had a sigh of relief then i also confronted my sis-in-law that it was not at all the situation to fight with them considering we cannot even go from that houseboat without their shikara and another shikara guy was not ready to take the passengers of that houseboat. After the incident i immediately booked another hotel through goibibo only. Also as i was scared for my family, i had cancelled the flights of 14th evening (which was booked on MMT not goibibo) and booked for 13th Morning (Booked on goibibo) so that i can leave Srinagar asap. Now after giving all the proof to goibibo audio/ video, they are not yet able to provide me proper support on this situation. lets see how the same goes but i am also planning to file an FIR with Kashmir Tourism police where i have got a contact so that no other traveler will have to face this again..

We recently stayed at the Golden Flower Houseboat and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Let's start with the positives. The houseboat itself was nice, providing a cozy and comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The food service was decent, but only if you specifically request it. The staff, when prompted, will make an effort to accommodate your needs. However, the real disappointment came in the form of the boat's guide and taxi driver, Hamid. Frankly, his demeanor was anything but pleasant. Throughout my stay, he exuded negativity, condescension, and an overall lack of hospitality. His attitude turned what could have been a relaxing vacation into an uncomfortable ordeal. Another major drawback is the lack of freedom to come and go as you please. Each time you want to exit or enter the boat, you're at the mercy of a ferry, often resulting in frustrating waits. During these waiting periods, you're subjected to a barrage of people invited onto the boat to sell various goods, hardly conducive to a relaxing atmosphere. If you do decide to book with Golden Flower, I strongly advise planning separate day trips to spend the majority of your time away from the boat. Otherwise, relaxation will be a rare commodity amidst the constant presence of what I can only describe as the "lake gang." Furthermore, if you're not of Indian descent, be prepared to feel like a walking money bag, constantly targeted for sales pitches. On the flip side, if you are Indian, don't expect warm hospitality either, as the staff's demeanor seemed colored by the historical tensions between Kashmir and India, as well as the differences in religion. Adding to the frustration, you will often be told that you're making a mistake if you have plans outside of the staff's agenda. They can even control when you make your appointments, so be sure to plan ahead, especially when departing to the airport. It's advisable to add extra time to your schedule to avoid being hustled for more money at the last minute. Moreover, any gesture of kindness from the staff should be viewed with skepticism, as it often turns out to be a con job. Be prepared for demands of obscene amounts of money at the end of the day for services that should have been included. Do not book tours through these people, no matter how much they insist. The going rates will likely be exorbitant, leaving you feeling like you've been taken advantage of. Lastly, for vegetarian guests, the food options are disappointingly limited. In conclusion, I can only give Golden Flower Houseboat a generous 2 stars. While the boat itself and the meal service were commendable, the poor treatment by Hamid and the constant hassle from unwanted locals left much to be desired. If you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
