Cleartrip to introduce travellers to a treasure trove of history in God’s Own Country; partners with the Muziris Heritage Project to connect tourists with unique experiences

Travellers will now be able to book activities online, like the Muziris Circuit Tour along with access to museums, and heritage sites, on the Cleartrip platform

Underlining its promise of facilitating distinct travel experiences to customers, Cleartrip, India’s leading travel and leisure platform, has signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Muziris Heritage Project board as its official online ticketing partner. Through this association, travellers will be able to book tickets to various tours and sites including the Paliam Palace Museum, Paliam Nalukettu Museum, and Paravur Synagogue, amongst others through Cleartrip. Another popular activity which travellers will be able to access through Cleartrip is the Muziris Circuit Tour, a first-of-its-kind, hop-on hop-off boat service in the country which traverses the major sites of the erstwhile Muziris region. The river boat tour comprises three circuits, with each covering three different heritage sites.

Muziris Heritage Project is a tourism venture by Tourism Department of Kerala to reinstate the historical and cultural significance of Muziris, the erstwhile name of the ancient seaport and urban centre on the Malabar coast, whose origins are said to date back to at least the 1st century BC. The port played a key role in enabling trade between southern India and ancient civilisations like the Phoenicians, the Persians, the Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Roman Empire.

Commenting on the announcement, Ankit Rastogi, VP- Activities & Accommodations Cleartrip, said, “The Muziris Heritage Project has been involved in promoting the erstwhile region of Muziris, a treasure trove of cultural, artistic, and archaeological remnants that have remained largely unknown among a majority of tourists. This partnership will be helpful in making it easily accessible to people from India and across the world who would like to explore this region and all that it has to offer. Moreover, in view of our recent partnership with the Kerala State Tourism Department, this association will also give us an opportunity to contribute towards helping boost economic opportunities for the local communities. This partnership underlines our commitment to the cause of Kerala tourism’s revival after the recent floods.”

Mr. Nowshad PM, Managing Director, Muziris Heritage Project, commented, “Being one of the major drivers of state’s economy the tourism industry can play an integral in Kerala’s rehabilitation. The Muziris region represents a hitherto unknown side of Kerala, and Cleartrip, being one of the leading players in the online travel and activities space, will be the ideal partner for the Muziris Heritage Project in its endeavour to bring more international and domestic tourists to this region and create new opportunities for the locals.”

The Muziris Heritage Project is one of the largest cultural and environmental conservation projects in the country and the first green project by the Kerala government, which has given a major fillip to tourism in the state. The ambitious project seeks to link up heritage sites, restore monuments and community spaces along the riverside villages and towns of North Paravur, Chendamangalam, Chittattinkara, Vadakkekara, Pallippuram, Kodungalloor, Mathilakam, Eriyad and Methala and liven them up with community-based projects and cultural shows from the region. Over the past two years, the Kerala State Tourism Department has undertaken various initiatives and partnerships to revitalise the project ahead of the upcoming third edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

As one of the first OTAs to enter the virtual assistance space, Cleartrip offers travellers the option to choose from more than 15,000 experiences, catering to 200+ interests across 50+ cities, with the help of a vast network of partners and sellers in India.
