Let’s ride doubles through this Indiranagar watering hole, where grown-ups can hop off upstairs in the dinner section and you can park at the bar where mixologist Anthony Wilson shows off some serious bartending skills.
He starts us off with a batch of Old Fashioneds, perfectly bitter-sweet balanced with all the hues of a Balinese sunset. Meanwhile a Tie-Me-Up whiskey cocktail, made with strawberries and mint, makes a big entrance, streaming white smoke on a pedestal and tasting like an adult drink with the bruised, berry heart of a teenager. Morning After mixed with vodka, Kahlua, coffee, garlic, and three carefully placed coffee beans on a creamy head, gets points for presentation, but sadly, garlic is not a winning ingredient unless you’re aiming for Viking breath à la Hagar the Horrible. But His & Hers wins us over with a spectacular performance, worthy of cirque du soleil: four fat-bottomed glasses, each with a different swirling liquid arrives at the table – whiskey, gin, blue curacao and a pineapple-ginger base – garnished with cinnamon and flambéed in front of us. Cheers!
Let’s eat, shall we?
The food menu tries to cover a vast variety of cravings from street food and regional cuisine to cheese and carbs. We sample melting pots – chicken and cheese in pani puris, gooey, stringy and meaty; and juicy firkis and roasted lamb oriental, much like Kourtney Kardashian, that are tasty but forgettable.
Mains of pork ribs are tender, accompanied by a creamy mash, excellent wedges that are soft on the inside and crisp on the outside, and a surprisingly good side of roasted apples. Anjal masala fry is authentic and really hits the spot with its thick gravy, but will do better with a portion of steamed rice. Other interesting listings include donne biryani and butter chicken biryani, but we’ll have to save those for next time.
We end with a chocolate mud pie – woefully tiny portions that qualify more as warm chocolate cake in a jar. Noting out disappointment, Anthony sends over three Blowjobs, delicious shooters served in pants that one must drink without using their hands.
Diners upstairs, we told you to get off down by Anthony when you had the chance.
