'The Undavalli Caves are a large set of 2nd and 7th century caves consisting of 64 caves dedicated to the Hindu and Buddhist faiths. The largest among these sandstone and rock-cut caves is a four-storied shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This cave enshrines a monolithic statue of Lord Vishnu in a reclining posture, carved out of black granite. There are many other caves dedicated to numerous Hindu deities such as Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva, and their incarnations. As the caves were initially designed as Buddhist monasteries, there are also a few viharas at Undavalli built in the Gupta architectural style. The caves are adorned with several marvelous specimens of sculpture and are certainly a worthwhile visit.'
