'The Prakasam Barrage is a monumental structure extending across the River Krishna. The 1223 meter long barrage was built in the mid 19th century to connect the Krishna and Guntur districts. The three canals emerging from the barrage are weaved into the cityscape of Vijayawada. The barrage is used as a dam as well as a road bridge. Providing irrigation to over 1.2 million acres of land in and around Vijayawada, this barrage is also the first and one of the largest irrigation projects in South India. You can get a spectacular view of the adjoining lake from the top of the barrage while driving along the road bridge.'
