'This iconic and massive fort is believed to have been constructed in the 16th century. This structure is clearly amongst the best forts of India. Constructed out of granite stones, its architecture is robust and imposing. Its gates, turrets, basements, posts, and ramparts immediately hold one attention. There is also an escape tunnel inside the fort’s temple that takes one to about 12 km away, to a place called Virinjipuram. The fort of Vellore held Tipu Sultans family members and the last king of Sri Lanka as prisoners during the British Raj. A temple, church, and mosque are added attractions inside the Vellore fort.'
