Atariya Temple, merely two kilometers away from the Rudrapur bus stand, is a revered site for the locals. It is believed that King Rudra decided to build Atariya Temple after his chariot was stuck in the nearby marshy land. Since the time of King Rudra, this temple has stayed the same. Apart from hosting a crowd of devotees, a ten-day long fair is organized at Atariya Temple. Another sacred spot in Rudrapur is the temple of Chaiti Devi.
Travelers arrive at Rudrapur because of its proximity to the Jim Corbett National Park. Located about 80 km away from the town of Rudrapur, this famous tiger reserve is India’s oldest national park. Arrive at this vast reserve between April and mid-June to witness tigers and elephants from close quarters. Jim Corbett National Park is also home to a range of plants and birds species.
Bhimtal, located about 64 km away from Rudrapur, is a high altitude lake (about 1,375 meters from sea level). Associated with the legend of Bhima from Mahabharata, the beautiful lake surrounds a little island in its center. And if you cannot make it to Bhimtal Lake, then walk up to Giri Sarovar Lake which is about two kilometers away from the Kashipur bus stand.
