'Chilika Lake is a water lagoon, part of which, lies within Puri. Located at the mouth of the Daya River and flowing into the Bay of Bengal, it also spreads into Khurda and Ganjam districts. This lagoon is the largest in India and the second largest in the world. Many migratory birds fly here during the winter, and there are a number of endangered animals and plants that find sustenance around this lake as well. With its rich aquatic life and marine ecosystem, it also provides a source of livelihood for some fishing communities in the Odisha region.'
