'George Wittet, who designed the Gateway of India, is also the creative genius of Mumbai’s biggest and most impressive museum, styling it with Indo-Saracenic elements. A domed, imposing structure, this museum is an interesting mixture of British, Islamic and Hindu inspired architecture. The exhibits here include collections from across the country. Some examples from the huge collection include remarkable Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, figures from the Indus Valley civilization, porcelain figurines, Indian miniature paintings, and ominous-looking weaponry. Information here is available in English, with audio guides present in seven languages. It also houses a fine cafeteria and a museum shop. Better known as the Prince of Wales Museum, it was renamed after Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire.'
