'Founded in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, the rich, benevolent and religious wife of a zamindar, the Dakshineswar Temple is a revered place of worship, attracting devotees of all faiths and castes. After her husband’s death, Rani Rashmoni took over his estate and fulfilled her lifelong dream of building this temple. Spanning a huge expanse, Dakshineswar houses a number of temples, mostly dedicated to Goddess Kali. Saint Ramakrishna, after whom the Ramakrishna Mission was named, was the head priest when the temple was first founded. Visit this spot for its architecture, its history or its religious significance, but don’t miss it. '
