'A major religious site with shrines belonging to multiple faiths clustered in one area, Hajo is an example of Guwahati’s secular spirit. According to Hindu mythology this was one of the places where the Pandavas resided during their exile. Popular shrines such as the ancient temples of Hayagriva Madhava, Ganesha, Kedareswara and Madan Kamdev are located here. The Hayagriva Madhava Temple according to some, is also the spot where Lord Buddha attained Nirvana. It is believed to house sacred relics of Buddha and is popular among Buddhist devotees. The sacred Powa Mecca shrine housing the tomb of Pir Giasuddin Aulia is an important religious site for Muslims.'
