'The Gulbarga Fort was originally built by Raja Gulchand during the Warangal Kakatiya dynastic rule. Sultan Allauddin Bahmani of the Bahmani Dynasty made several additions and refurbishings to the fort during his rule. The Jama Masjid is the most remarkable structure within the fort. Dating back to 1367, it is built in the Persian architectural style, fully enclosed, with 5 large and 75 small domes and 250 arched columns, unlike any other mosque in India. The acoustics within the mosque are so designed that even without a microphone worshipers at the far end of the prayer hall can hear the call to prayer clearly. The Balahisar or watchtower is a well maintained, solid structure. A staircase leads to the ruined upper portion which houses a canon. The entire periphery of the fort is visible from here.'
