About the hotel
The House of MG and its annexes, Mangaldas ni Haveli I and Mangaldas ni Haveli II are the premier boutique heritage hotels in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Ahmedabad.The House of MG has 38 beautifully appointed rooms between them, offering all modern amenities in a grand but homely ambience. It is a 20th century family mansion that is renowned for its traditional hospitality. Mahatma Gandhi first stayed in this house on arrival from South Africa in 1917. Replete with courtyards and verandahs overflowing with greenery, it is comfortably conditioned in all enclosed spaces with free Wifi. Walking through the meandering corridors, there are pleasant surprises around every corner (including a couple of domesticated cats that can be found lounging around). The House of MG has been tastefully restored, with all its furniture and fixtures designed and sourced from local artisans.
Mangaldas ni Haveli I and II, both restored havelis, are located at a distance of 2 km from The House of MG, in the very midst of the pols. They too have all modern amenities including free Wifi. There is a cafe serving snacks and juices at Mangaldas ni Haveli II. Residents at these annexes can avail all facilities at the main hotel.
The House of MG is conveniently located, at a distance of 7 kms from the airport and 2 kms from the railway station, 4 km from CG Road and 11 kms from SG highway, whether you are visiting for business or for pleasure. The citys main heritage attractions like Sidi Saiyad Mosque, Bhadra Fort, Juma Masjid and Manek Chowk leading to the famous pols are within walking distance. The famed river-front boulevard and gardens are just a stones throw from the front entrance. The hotel is close to all forms of public transport and is surrounded by eateries for fine dining and street food.
Agashiye, the renowned Traditional Gujarati Thali Restaurant, is on the terrace of the The House of MG (it was voted one of the top ten restaurants in India by Trip Advisor in 2016). The Green House Cafe is on the ground floor in a semi open courtyard offering gujarati and South Indian Snacks, comfort food from the continent as well as Fresh juices and Ice-creams. Pol Kholi Cafe is located in Mangaldas ni Haveli II, offering similar snacks and fresh juices.
Within the house of MG is an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a spa as well as a unique artisanal store that specialises in products ranging from bodycare and gourmet foods to gifts heritage books and exquisite heirloom products. There is also a textile gallery showcasing spectacular antique textiles from the family collection. Our Conference and Banquet spaces can accommodate up to 400 guests. The hotel conducts daily guided heritage walks from the main hotel and also organises customized architectural & artisan workshops as well as heritage sites & shopping tours on request.
There are 46 rooms between three properties, 3 restaurants, indoor swimming pool, salon and spa, gym, banquet and conference space, artisanal gift shop. heritage bookstore and Textile Gallery showcasing the family collection of antique Indian textiles.
The premises offer luxury rooms that are categorized as Deluxe room, Grand room (Deluxe) and Grand Suite. Each room is resourced with all essential amenities and festooned with chic interiors. However, the grand suite is nicely arranged with king size bed. Guests can relish their stay as rooms are equipped with air conditioner, minibar and satellite TV service. Hygienically clean bathroom is attached to all the rooms to ensure comfort.
HMG Deluxe Rooms
Deluxe Rooms are equipped with a King size four-poster bed / Twin beds, a sofa and a worktable along with all modern amenities.
HMG Grand Deluxe Rooms
Grand Deluxe Rooms are large and cozy rooms with King size four-poster bed / Twin beds and a worktable. Most of them have a swing and are equipped with all modern amenities. They have a spacious bathroom and a dressing area.
HMG Grand Suite
All the five Grand Suites in the House of MG have a seating area separated from the bedroom. Along with all the modern conveniences, these rooms have a King Size bed or two twin beds. They also have a swing (a hanging sofa typical of a Gujarati home), a sofa set and a work table. Each Grand Suite has a large bathroom and a dressing area.
HMG Kanchangauri Suite
This is a lovely suite of rooms, with a small but fully equipped pantry. It has a dining area and a sleeping area besides the seating area and work table. It is in memory of Mangaldass second wife Kanchangauri, who was the matriarch after Mangaldass passing in 1930. The room is decorated with her archival photos.
HMG Mangaldas Suite
Located on the second floor, it is the largest suite in the hotel dedicated to the memory of the patriarch who built this mansion. The suite of rooms is the size of an apartment with two seating areas, one with a swing. It is decorated with archival photos of Mangaldas with Mahatma Gandhi and other notable personalities of that time.
Annexe Penthouse SuiteLocated in Annexe 2 kms away from The House of MG, this sprawling third floor suite has a King bed, large sitting space with wardrobe, large work table and a wonderful private balcony with a swing overlooking the courtyard with a charming narrow street in front. It has large windows all around with lots of natural light and a big bathroom with shower. Access is by stairs and lift.
Annexe Junior Suites
Located in Annexe, 2 kms away from The House of MG, the Junior suite is located on 1st and second floor and comprises of three sections. The entrance has the wardrobe and changing area, then a sleeping area with Queen bed (with option of twin mattresses) and small balcony and a verandah with swing and work table that is flooded with natural light (one entire wall has windows overlooking the courtyard). It has a large size bathroom with shower. Access is by stairs and lift.
