This boutique hotel is located centrally in the old french town of Pondicherry and it used to be the house of the Mayor. The hotel has a typical French architecture with large, spacious rooms and a beautiful open central courtyard. My stay with my wife was very pleasant and comfortable. The hotel staffs were very efficient and caring. We had our breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was really tasty.I would strongly recommend this hotel to all !!!!!

Booked the place for three nights. amazing ambience, was completely floored by the hospitality. The room was spacious and with ample amenities. Bathtub, Centrally AC, etc. Cleaning, Room service was impeccable, rivalling that of a 5 star. Restaurant is a must. Try the creme caramel in dessert.

It was our first Valentines' day weekend after marriage, and we were in between two work-trips, so we wanted to make the most of the weekend--Le Dupleix was the best
option that happened to us :)
The Customer service is excellent. From the moment we stepped in, we were tended to with great warmth and eagerness. The location is central and equally proximate from the beach and the town--some of the staff recommendations (The Cycle tour) were accurate and enriched our experience Pondicherry...
Lastly, the Valentines' eve dinner reservation was just as I anticipated.
My wife and I will always remember our first trip to Pondicherry, our first Valentines' weekend after marriage, and our first joint tour on a bicycle :)
Thank you, Le Dupleix :)

Stayed here about 10 years ago and just had to go back there again. It was so fabulous to see how they've maintained the place. Staff is the sweetest! What comfy beds too. I only wish they'd vastly expand their playlist in their otherwise almost perfect courtyard restaurant. Say hello to James when you're there, he's the warmest host I've met in Pondicherry!

We had a rocky beginning to our stay, when, after a 3-hour drive from Chennai airport, the hotel desk said they don't have our reservation. Having booked directly through the
hotel's website, this was a surprise we hadn't bargained for. I recommend that fellow travellers call them up a few days in advance to reconfirm. Fortunately, they did have a smaller penthouse available where we put in our luggage while waiting for our's to become available.
Had lunch while waiting. My black pomfret was actually decent, my daughter's squid not bad, but my wife's chettinad chicken was insipid to the point she didn't go beyond a few spoonfuls. This made us stay away from meals at the hotel thereafter. I will say, though, that they are not bad at basic Continental preparations. They aren't good with local food. We found this to be true even at the breakfasts we had - okay at poached eggs or sunny side ups, but leaving a lot to be desired when it comes to idli or dosa. And they take inordinately long in getting you your food.
But our room was very good. Wooden flooring, old world wooden roof, wood panels, a very big bathroom. We had a very big bed and enough space in the room to lay out a spare mattress for a third adult. The mini bar doesn't quite chill your drink, but they obliged us with their kitchen fridge for that. They always timed housekeeping for the duration we were away. We indulged ourselves with oil massage sessions that they organised from a spa.
There is a very laid back, relaxed air about the hotel. There are several chairs, sofas and swings in the balconies and landings where you can curl up with a book. If it feels warm, you can trust an attendant to place a pedestal fan for you, without having to ask for it. The staff are mostly youngsters who really want to make your stay pleasant. And they will organise transportation for you even at short notice. We found Ola Cabs to be a good alternative as well.
Several good eateries are just short walks away. Do try La Maison Rose, Le Club, Kamatchi Biryani Veedu and Surguru Spot. And don't miss the green coconut water that are sold around every corner.
All things considered, this is a nice place, located well and has friendly staff. The rooms are what you expect at a boutique hotel. But their food and general upkeep can come up a few notches. It will be an excellent option then.

Our experience at Le Dupleix was patchy -- hence the " average" score.
Check in was very fast , unfortunately the room we were given - No. 1, -- was not quite ready but there we were, discovering the fact that the room was not ready and having to call reception every time we made a discovery. We arrived from Chennai at 3.30 pm with a sightseeing / lunch stop in Mamallapuram, hence it would have been nice if the room was ready for us.
The room itself was large and furnished with beautiful antiques, although the room layout left much to be desired. The most annoying thing was the bathroom which is in two sections -- the WC is on one side of the room without a bidet, hand bidet or any water supply other than the flush . Bath tub, wash basin are on the other side of the room, across from the WC! Strange and inconvenient. This room has a loft with a bed which is a mattress on the floor. We had requested twin beds -- perhaps this was their idea of a twin bed room -- one king size bed downstairs and the other in the loft!!
To cap it call -- the AC is concealed in the loft -- and cannot be controlled from the ground floor, it requires a trip to the loft. Great exercise!
On the plus side, the food was always excellent and the staff were lovely -- always obliging , although we had to ask many times before something was done.
Le Dupleix is a historical building with a great location in the French part of town ("white town" ), within walking distance of the beach. I do hope they sort out their issues soon -- it could earn them a better rating.
