This boutique hotel is located centrally in the old french town of Pondicherry and it used to be the house of the Mayor. The hotel has a typical French architecture with large, spacious rooms and a beautiful open central courtyard. My stay with my wife was very pleasant and comfortable. The hotel staffs were very efficient and caring. We had our breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was really tasty.I would strongly recommend this hotel to all !!!!!

A flight out of Chennai delayed, a snap decision at the airport to head out to the former French colony - Pondicherry. The better half's former association with INTACH, a NGO involved in restoration of built heritage equipped us with the precious nugget of info that if it is Pondicherry, the the French Quarter it must be. A quick online search helped us home onto this quaint place named after the 17th century Governor of the same name. The place which is presently managed by the SAROVAR hospitality group has been restored with great attention to detail. Each room is done up differently with each having a distinct character. In fact the house keeping staff had standing instructions during our stay to show us each room as and when it fell vacant. The waterfall integrated into the staircase is deserving of particular mention owning to the ingenuity of the concept and brilliant execution. We stayed in room no nine for two nights three days and ate in the in-house restaurant on two occasions apart from the complimentary breakfasts and loved enjoyed every one of them. The staff were really nice and attentive. They arranged a two wheeler on rent to enable us to see the local sights including Auroville, the beaches, etc.

I've stayed at a dozen Pondy hotels over the years and I have to say that my stay last weekend was the best so far. Their staff are simply wonderful. Helpful, professional, pleasant, accommodating...I run out of superlatives. Location: perfect. Food: outstanding. Wifi: Great. Rooms: Very nice.

We just back from our trip to Pondicherry. We stayed there for 4 days ( 4-8Feb 2015 )
Everything right from the point of enquiry via email to their quick n prompt reply and even their return call to help with directions everything was handled excellently.
The staff were very helpful and friendly always ready with a smile. A special mention has to be made about 3 of the staff in particular especially Mr Dev, Nelson and 1 of the house keeping staff Padmini who always made it a point to talk to my 2 year old whenever they ran into her and were always ready to help.
We were staying with our 2 year old and when we mentioned that we would require milk for her in the night it was promptly sent to our room every night and to our astonishment they didn't even charge us for it and said it was complimentary.
We stayed in the Penthouse Suite on the second floor..Loved the wooden finishings..The room was spacious enough for our 2 year old to run around..The bathroom clean with nice hot water...free wi fi available which was very good..
The food also good..breakfast complimentary and lunch n dinner A La Carte...
The best part of the hotel is its proximity to the Promenade just 2 mins walking distance away. .All the main sightseeing points like the Notre Dame de Anges, Aurobhindo ashram, Bhakthi Park, M.G. Road etc all walking distance from the hotel.
The hotel will also provide 2 wheelers on hire at a rate of Rs250 per day which wen u hve a crainky 2 year old who wants to be carried it is a real boon.
Even if u require a taxi or rickshaw to take you around just mention to the front office staff and they will get one for you in a jiffy..
We travel extensively through the length and breadth of India and have stayed at some of the best hotels and would definitely recommend this hotel to all our friends and family and if we ever return to Pondicherry will definitely stay here again. Loved the friendly attitude of the staff here right from the house keeping staff to the waiters to the front office staff...
Thanks Le Dupleix for a wonderful staying experience.

The hotel is in a good location just a five minute walk from the sea front. We stayed in what is called the penthouse. This is an addition to
the original building and sits well. However the construction standard is poor particularly the bathroom, which was shabby. It had just one towel on arrival (had to ask twice for more) and no hot water in the evening.
As reported by others and can be seen by the photos taken by others there is a building site next door. It seems that the construction has been ongoing for 5 years and it looks like it could take another few years to complete. I understand that work on the building is spasmodic a few days of much noise then weeks of inactivity. It must drive the poor owners of the hotel crazy. Staff are friendly and helpful, but not particularly efficient.
Breakfasts are good. Courtyard dining would be quite pleasant if it was not overshadowed by the building site.

Le Dupleix set in the French quarter is a decent clean city hotel, the room we had was adequate, but the smallest on our three week trip around Kerala and Tamil Nadu, (probably half the size of others), plumbing was noisy all night, and the bathroom was overdue a good refurbishment. Service at meal times was slow. Pondicherry itself, outside the French quarter is filthy (keep away from the canal) though the flower and vegetable market well worth a visit.
