This boutique hotel is located centrally in the old french town of Pondicherry and it used to be the house of the Mayor. The hotel has a typical French architecture with large, spacious rooms and a beautiful open central courtyard. My stay with my wife was very pleasant and comfortable. The hotel staffs were very efficient and caring. We had our breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was really tasty.I would strongly recommend this hotel to all !!!!!

A long unwinding weekend at Pondicherry brought us to Le Dupleix - one reason restored Mayors residence- a heritage structure. On the quiet rue on the corner is this beautiful
white structure with a large courtyard with rooms on three levels. The hotel exudes charm and peace- the rooms are colonial and large.
Although I was hoping for a first floor room, the hotel was booked so I got a ground floor room (#2). Huge room, very high ceilings, four poster elevated bed and a window which lets the morning sun in while reading your news paper.
The bathroom was a grouse- tiny tub so you can’t bathe- and the walls seemed wet with leaks plus they did not have floor rugs for the wet floors.
When you leave the room door open by any chance, guests will mistake it for a restaurant entry or a washroom since the ground floor room entries are through the restaurant.
The staff is excellent and very courteous and takes to your needs promptly. We needed a bike rented for the day and since they could not find us one - one of the staff let his bike and we got to know only in the evening about it - now that’s service- Thank You Vasan! Same goes for ordering food for my sick friend which was off the menu and their service hours.
The food - although I did not do justice by eating from the restaurant is excellent- They have a lovely breakfast spread.

This place is excellent. As another reviewer has said, the rooms have just the right mix of Tamil and colonial charm, and are great places just to be- the sign
of a really good hotel.
The courtyard escapes the madness that can be intrusive in India, and the food is wonderful- French cuisine with Indian touches which add interest and spice (you will probably most appreciate breakfast if you have been travelling for a while: the croissants and patisserie are worthy of a Parisian hotel).
A special mention to the staff, who are, without exception, superb. Courteous and attentive, without for a moment being intrusive.
Great place. Would be happy to spend a long time here. And you really can't say that about many hotels...

Looking for authentic french food we chanced upon Le Dupleix. It is one of the oldest buildings in the heart of old French town of Pondicherry and is believed to
be 200 years old. It has been restored and converted in one of the two design oriented hotels by the Kapurs of Hidesign family. It is run by Sarovar Hotels. Originally it was built as the residence to French Mayor of Pondicherry, Dupleix. It has 14 luxurious rooms and 2 restaurants, Gourmet' Restaurant and The Governor's Lounge Bar.
Unfortunately there was a tandoori festival on and the only two authentic french dishes available in the bar were Poulet Saute Chasseur and Classic tenderloin steak. Both the dishes were well done and really tasty. The old regal building and the atmosphere in the bar made our evening very special.

Adequate, clean room and bath. Beautifully crafted wooden furniture, and architectural details on pillars and ceilings. The breakfast was tasty, South Indian fare. The beach was in walking distance and an evening walk along the beach was great. The building is 3 stories, but does not have an elevator. A talented violinist played in the courtyard during the evening--Fantastic.
