This is a charming, heritage hotel located in a very peaceful and picturesque area, away from the town of Pelling. It is right next-door to a monastery. The check-in was prompt, and we were welcomed by Basudeb, the barman, with a friendly smile and a welcoming drink. There is no elevator in this building so senior citizens may well request for a room on the first floor. The rooms were smallish, as compared to some other Elgin hotels, but were clean. The view from the balcony is simply breath taking, particularly in the mornings, when the sunshine lights up the magnificent peaks of Kanchenjunga mountains. The restaurant serves decent food. The restaurant staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Basudeb, the barman, was again there with his drinks and friendly chit chat! You can visit many of the attractions in and around Pelling with this hotel as your base. If you wish to spend a few days in a tranquil, cool and beautiful hill station and prefer to stay close to mother nature, this hotel should be your choice.

Pleasant stay .. but not as exclusive as the Gangtok Elgin ppty which we have given a higher perfect rating ! Bath tub and shower but the water was not hot enough and so cud barely use . Food spread and taste was average .. room was cozy comfortable and with beautiful mt pandium view but this was after request . First night room was with a dirty green done view with poor bath fitting. For the price paid definitely they shud avoid giving such. Rooms to customers . Special mention manager at lobby , bartender and the ladies in the dining room were attentive.

The Hotel Property is excellent, the staff is superb, Food is good. The location is the best. The Hotel being an old British age Construction does not Have a lift in the main Building. Thus it is a pain to clim floors which could be 2-3 Floors. There appears to be Power cuts in Pelling, the Hotel does not have 100% Power back up thus the guest may have to sleep in the room without Heater and take a bath with Cold water. The worst is if any Guest desire to Talk to Managing Director to explain the problem he is not ready to talk to the guest on Phone nor returns the call.

The Elgin property in Pelling is exquisite in every sense- decor , room , food , service , location . The view of the Kanchanjunga ranges is spectacular especially during sunrise . We had a fantastic stay at this hotel . The stay at this hotel made our holiday extra special .

We had 2 rooms in the property with the family but it was an average stay for all nof us. Property needs to maintain the rooms

While The Royal Retreat boasts a rich heritage and history, the overall experience falls somewhat short of expectations. Certain aspects of the stay could be improved. On the positive side, the staff members are friendly and courteous Despite their best efforts, some requests may take longer to fulfill than expected.
