My New Favorite Bonvoy Hotel

5/5

·

nishan22_77 on Apr 23, 2024

We’ve been pretty loyal Bonvoy members for nearly 20 years, but certain bad incidents at hotels such as the St. Regis Osaka and Bernini Bristol caused us to shy away from Bonvoy hotels. We decided to give the King George Hotel a try and we’re so glad that we did. We made our reservation through American Express and had a wonderful king room overlooking Sytagma Square with views of Parliament where we could lean out our window to see the changing of the guard. We were on a lower floor so didn’t have a view of the Acropolis, but still thought it was wonderful. The room itself was very large with a wonderful bed with luxurious crisp, white sheets. All of the outlets and charging stations were in working order and there was a nice, traditional desk in the middle of the room with a credenza opposite the desk. At the other end was a very chic sofa with a coffee table. There was plenty of closet space with an in room coffee maker, separate electric kettle and small fridge. The bathroom was also very luxurious – old marble that had new fixtures, with Byredo amenities. The décor was traditional, luxurious and tastefully opulent. The décor and style of the hotel actually reminded me a lot of the Bristol Hotel in Paris – relaxed elegance. The hotel also has only 100 rooms and feels very intimate. I want to make a special note of the wonderful housekeeping service at the hotel. Our rooms were serviced at least twice a day, without fail. Sometimes we would run down for a quick breakfast and be back in an hour to an absolutely spotless room. The staff was very friendly and would offer to return at a later time if it was inconvenient. It’s obvious they take a lot of pride in their work and it really did show. The rooms are so well maintained, its remarkable. The hotel has a nice gym, a wonderful bar and restaurant (Tudor Hall). We stayed during the shoulder season, so the glass windows still encased the patio of Tudor Hall, but it offers breathtaking views of the Acropolis. The hotel lacks a pool, but we were offered use at the Hotel Grande Bretagne (which is right next door). The Grande Bretagne is a much bigger sister hotel to the King George. We did use the pool a few times and while the Grande Bretagne is lovely, it’s a much bigger hotel. We dined at the Michelin starred Tudor Hall a few times and found the food and service exquisite. I found the food expertly prepared, the service efficient but friendly, and over all our experiences were a great value. The food was some of the best we ate during our two weeks in Greece. The location, for our purposes, was ideal. It’s right in the middle of Syntagma Square. It’s a touristy area, but it’s very walkable to a lot of major attractions – Acropolis, Plaka neighborhood, Monastiraki Square, the Ancient Agora, etc. We found it an ideal base for touring what Athens has to offer. We never had a problem finding a taxi (although we used booking Apps primarily). I think where the hotel differentiates itself is the service. The front desk and concierges were all really helpful. They called places to see if they were open, made reservations, provided recommendations on activities and tours, etc. We also needed a hospital while we were there, and they called several places to confirm that they would be open and able to accommodate us. All in all, we loved our stay at the King George Hotel. It’s very luxurious and intimate. The service is top-notch, and the rooms are some of the most comfortable we have stayed in anywhere in the world. Everything just runs perfectly at this hotel. We had such a wonderful time, we’re already planning our next trip.

This is an exceptional hotel, from the moment you enter it exudes opulence. The staff goes above and beyond at every turn. There is an old school charm which is lacking from most hotels these days no matter the standard of the hotel. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and hope to return very soon. The location on syntagma is perfect for exploring the city. Special mention to Christos for all his guidance and recommendations, but all the staff were wonderful, warm, friendly, professional the highest level of customer service.

Agree definitely worth the extra to stay here particularly if a couple. Very professional and attentive at front desk. Lovely cake supprise for birthday but only got 1 slice as housekeeping took it away-too efficient! Stayed for a wk with lovely interconnecting rooms. Shower in bath a little difficult to get into though. Breakfasts tiny bit slow on a la cart (one morning order lost but quickly rectified) -doesnt effect my rating. And Breakfast still excellent. Location great. Walk to most sites/shops. Great spa access next door but pool ridiculously cold. Very happy with the stay. All staff excellent. Good 5 star, others take note.

We stayed at the King George hotel 4 nights and had a great time! From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome with great service. We met Aggeliki Tsianoula, the assistant front desk manager who was extremely kind and professional . As Titanium Elite members we were upgraded to a very nice suite. The staff at the reception and concierge , mainly Ilania and Stella , who were simply incredible with their super attentive service, great knowledge and mazing recommendations . The hotel has a perfect location : every thing important is within walking distance and one can not ignore the amazing view from the rooftop restaurant! The only bad incident we had was unfortunately as we departed the hotel and asked the doorman’s assistance in getting a car to the airport. For some reason he insisted on a specific car ( and not simply a yellow cab) and even though there is a flat rate of 40€ when we arrived at the airport , that driver asked for 55€!!! We argued with him and eventually he agreed to let us pay “ only” 45€…. I immediately called the hotel and reported the incident and was very surprised when they called me back to let me know that they had checked it and that I would get a 5€ credit. It is quite disappointing to see that this kind of “foul play” takes place at such a respectable fancy hotel. Other than that , it was a great stay!

Beautiful rooftop bar view

We loved the rooftop bar. It was a beautiful location for sunset. It had a magical view of the Acropolis lighted at nighttime. They had incredible appetizers and deserts. The craft cocktails were creative and the staff was very accommodating in the bar area.
