Deeply Disappointing Stay at an Iconic Property

I recently stayed at ITC Maurya for a weekend staycation (11th–12th April) with my husband, and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve had. Given the hotel’s reputation and the fact that it hosts global dignitaries, we had very high expectations. However, the experience made us feel that unless you are a VIP, guest experience is not a priority here. The issues began right at check-in. The process took nearly 30 minutes, with repeated questions and no sense of efficiency or courtesy. We were not even offered a seat while waiting. After finally completing the check-in, there was no guidance to our room (3108). Poor signage meant we had to return to reception just to locate it. On entering the room, we were greeted by loud construction noise due to drilling nearby. This completely ruined the first impression. While the noise was stopped after we complained, it is surprising that rooms are allocated in such areas when the hotel is aware of ongoing work. The evening experience at the lounge was equally disappointing. We were informed we could access multiple venues for cocktails and snacks, but upon reaching the 16th-floor lounge, there was no staff available to assist. The staff overall appeared disengaged and overworked. After a long wait, we ordered a gin and tonic. The order was first forgotten, and when it arrived, it was poorly made — essentially a glass full of tonic with minimal gin. This reflected a lack of basic service standards. We escalated the issue to the duty manager, but while he apologized, there was no effort to recover the situation or enhance our experience. Even when he took us to the bar, no alternative arrangements or gestures were offered despite lack of seating. The frustration continued later that night when my husband, having forgotten the key, requested a duplicate. The key system was not functioning, leading to further confusion at reception, and he had to be escorted to the room instead. We also received a call from the front office manager, Garvit, after raising concerns, but again, there was no genuine sense of accountability or attempt to make amends. Despite giving multiple opportunities for service recovery, the hotel failed to take any meaningful action. As someone who works with an international foundation and frequently hosts guests, I had considered this hotel for future business stays. However, after this experience, I would not recommend it nor return. This stay reinforced why brands like Taj Hotels stand apart in hospitality. Choosing ITC Maurya was a mistake I will not repeat.

The ITC always has excellent hospitality and the staff go above and beyond. That is consistently what I experienced here at the ITC Maurya. From the team who took care of me everyday at the Pavillion, the fitness center, and Kaya Kalp spa - everything is excellent. In fact, the team Made a tremendous effort to learn my daily routine and food orders to deliver a very personalized experience. I look forward to another trip here. Kudos to Chef Mohit, Pretty, Lucy, and the whole Pavillion team. Elizabeth at the Kaya Kalp spa.
