We stopped for one night here as part of our tour. We were allocated a large room with large bed, that was very comfortable, and the room had sofas and arm chairs. The garden outside was probably the highlight for us it was very pleasant to sit out there for breakfast and in the evening and the hotel food was very good. The room as with the rest of the hotel was shabby and needs redecorating and refurbishment. Consequently it makes the hotel feel dirty and to be honest our bedroom floor and our bathmat was. They could start simply by replacing the towels and bed linens that were clean but worn and we’re more grey than white. A safe for valuables a kettle and a fridge would be welcome and the rooms need repainting. Ours had stains on the walls and elsewhere the plaster was crumbling. I appreciate that Covid has hit the tourist industry badly but a few simple things like this would improve the hotel. For one night it was absolutely fine but wouldn’t recommend it for longer stays.

We chose this hotel intrigued by what looked like a historical/landmark property and convinced Small Leading Hotels of the World is some sort of a guarantee of upscale lodging in the world of hotels. Apparently not anymore. The owner of this property should be ashamed having allowed for such a tremendous beauty to be in such a sorry state. If this were a 3 star property one would have lower expectations and the resulting experience wouldn’t be such a complete disappointment. What really irks is the top price paid for a grand dame hotel that is in shambles. The entire hotel urgently needs a paint job, new bed linen, a thorough cleaning and food that doesn’t taste like war reserves. The once surely stunning hotel looks and feels mismanaged and abandoned. A great great shame as the potential is there ! Another thing - no one tells the guests the story of the property and we never learned anything about the palace and its original owners. There are dusty vitrines displaying objects that were most probably once used by the owner but we don’t really know as nobody bothers to tell.

I had booked this hotel for a business trip for almost 7 days seeing the pictures and the entire 'heritage' tag. But I left it after one-night of stay and at the reception they didn't even bother to ask why I am leaving after having made a booking for 7 days, all they cared was it was all paid. As a lady didnt feel the confidence to stay here alone..hotel had a worm out, low on security environment. No one was bothered to call me and check as I was late by a day for the check-in and they have a non refundable non amendable policy. The tariff was 5 plus taxes per night for this so called heritage palace for my Deluxe room. Pathetic is all I can say as the hotel charges like a 3 star and gives service of a 1 star, the management doesn't give a damn about hospitality and making a guest comfortable. Due to certain reason I had reached the hotel late around 11 pm, and upon asking for food arrangements they didn't have any late night kitchen facility and said we can give u only bread and jam. Not seeing the fact I was a solo lady traveller and I was forced to go outside with my driver to parcel food. No compromise for the guest. They don't have bottled water in a so called "deluxe room". Neither any toiletries except for some unknown brand's soap. The rooms are basic and don't justify for a whopping 5 k per night in such a small town. All they are doing is making a traveler pay for the maintenance of their so called royal palace. The servers are ill equipped to handle guests. Food served during breakfast is a la carte but extremely limited menu. No fresh juice. Basic mineral water bottle are charged and they expect the guest to drink RO water after paying 5 K. The waiters are also non- apologetic about it and the state of affairs. I would not recommend this place for the price they offer and the lack of amenities. Don't believe the pictures shown, it more than what meets the eye.

This hotel should be the go to place for anyone passing through Mandi, however this rambling establishment leaves a visitor wanting more. The older rooms whilst quaint require modernization and better upkeep. Many of the more recently added rooms are still being finished, so the smell of paint on that side of the building is overwhelming. The staff in general are not the politest or most attentive, however a brief view of the food preparation area showed that it was clean, tidy and perhaps the best run part of the operation. The local wildlife certainly approved as we saw a mouse enter the dining room and raid something from the kitchen.

We had dinner, we had rooms, and we had breakfast at Raj Mahal. In many ways, we felt like decades ago, living in this classy and historical focused environment. Everything was good and charming. However I must highlight the dinner at the evening. Not only were we the only white people in the room, but we experienced fantastic atmosphere among the many locals, that went for a treat. Which they god, as the food was just very well-cooked and plentyful. Nice stay
