I booked into Hotel Qamar for a 2-night stay prior to a trip travelling around south India, intending to spend a bit of time recovering from jet lag and exploring Mumbai a little. I picked this hotel because of a) its affordability and b) its proximity to Sandhurst Road station (the journey there from the airport was very easy, although the hotel is in a pretty dark and unwelcoming area). However, upon arriving at the property, the staff could not find my booking (despite me providing email confirmation), and I had to upgrade to a larger room that was vacant. I was really disappointed to have to negotiate hard with the manager for a discounted rate on the room as the error had not been my own. The room itself was fairly small but had a clean ensuite bathroom with a western-style shower. However, there was constant noise all night in the corridor, with children shouting and screaming at 3am, and staff knocking on the door to check I had the WiFi password and clean the bathroom (I appreciated the attentiveness to customer service, but not before 8am even on the day of checking out!). Even simple things like taking a copy of my passport took needlessly long, and I was very happy to check out. There are certainly better budget to mid-range accommodation options out there in Mumbai, which I will definitely be checking out at the end of my trip. If you are seeking a cheap(ish) option in Mumbai, near a useful train station, but don’t mind a couple of fairly sleepless nights, this may be a good choice for you!
