Strong Option for High End Hotel in Milan

I recently had the opportunity to spend three nights at the Principe di Savoia hotel in Milan and was overall very pleased with my stay. Close to a perfect stay with room for improvement, especially considering the high category of hotel it is (a member of the exclusive Dorchester Collection of hotels.) First, the hotel is lovely to look at, both inside out and out--in a classic luxury hotel style--not a "modern" or "minimalist" look at all so if you're looking for that then you'd be best served elsewhere. However, I very much liked the "look" overall and found it very sumptuous. The staff are very friendly, speak great English, and are overall very polished as one would expect for a hotel of this rank. Particular shoutout to Silvia in Il Solotto who is a real gem! Rooms are ample sized, very clean, excellent bedding, probably the best quality towels that I have come across in any hotel anywhere, and with adequate air conditioning. I was a little disappointed that they no longer have the iconic Italian Acqua di Parma toiletries in the bathroom and have replaced them with something else but I suppose that's not that big of a deal. No in room coffee maker or iron/ironing board--but you can request them. (Which I did for the iron/ironing board.) One annoying issue is that the hotel's turndown service was inconsistent--it happened the first night, was skipped the second night, and on the third night when it had already gotten to around 8:00 p.m. I called down and requested it as it seemed like it wasn't going to happen. (Which it then quickly did.) Again, not a huge deal but for a hotel like this you'd think turndown service would be proactively offered on a consistent, daily basis without asking for it. Great quality food for lunch or dinner in Il Saloto. I never tried anything but breakfast in their main restaurant though as they seemed fairly insistent on having a reservation ahead of time. Breakfast buffet was decent without being anything too memorable. Also a shoutout for using Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts for booking this hotel. I really appreciated the room upgrade they proactively provided, and all the other perks that go along with booking through FHR. Definitely helped make the hotel a more attractive stay with getting breakfast included, etc. There was a fairly significant service issue regarding the Metro rail strikes that occurred and apparently occur regularly in Milan and the hotel's lack of notifying guests that this was occurring--as it effects not just the public transportation but also the ability to easily secure a taxi or Uber when these strikes are occurring. I will say that after bringing this to the manager's attention they did a very good job of service recovery which was certainly appreciated and restored my faith in the hotel. So, overall, highly recommendable, almost perfect hotel that I would gladly return to when visiting Milan. Some area for improvement but that's almost always the case.

Beautiful classy hotel that meets every expectation. Gym, spa, bar, breakfast and dinner all excellent and the shuttle to the Duomo area means you are never more than a few minutes away from the heart of the city. Lovely neighbourhood restaurants abound. Our room was fabulous too (830). Loved and would definitely recommend.

One of the most elegant and star-studded hotels in the world, this staple in the Milanese scene does not disappoint. At any given point you may run into a celebrity in the hallways, especially during Fashion Week when the hotel bar sizzles. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, which is all you can ask for after busy days walking around Milan. No wonder this hotel is one of Milan's top choices.

The most luxurious place in Milano. I stay there every year since 2016 and simply love it. The best hotel in Milano. I can absolutely recommend. The coffee in the lobby is the best in the world. The restaurant in the hotel is worth a visit. The bar is absolutely stunning and there is big chance of meeting celebrities there. The service in the hotel is excellent.

Old School Italian Hospitality at its Best !!!

When you enter the hotel, you get a warm feeling of old school luxury. It is as if your transported back to the 18th Century. The hotel in is gorgeous, and the staff are superb. They really know what hospitality is about and it’s been a while since I have experienced this level of hospitality. I am an avid traveler who stays in 3 different 5 star properties a month, but this one really stood out. The hotel staff did small gestures which just add to the whole charm this hotel carries. For example, they knew we were celebrating our baby moon and had a beautiful cake with a picture congratulating us waiting in the room for us. Everywhere we dined in the hotel, they would double check all the food my wife can have. This shows the attention to detail the staff are trained with. Room: We stayed in the Mosiac room, it was spacious enough and although had the old school charm, it had all the modern world amenities that one requires. I particularly liked the size of the room ( I normally complain about this in Europe as asia and other places are generous with the size) but no complains this time around. Food: The breakfast is amazing. They have a lovely spread and the restaurant seating gets beautiful light that just adds to the flavor. At the lobby lounge I did my usual “Club Sandwich Test”: I normally always order a club sand which in every hotel that I stay in. Every 5 star hotel in the world has that one common dish which is a club sandwich. And based on this sandwich I judge the food. (since it’s the same dish everywhere it is fair to judge on that). I am happy to say that the club sandwich was the best club sandwich I have had in the 48 5 star hotels I have stayed around the world (this includes all the four seasons, mandarin orientals, ritz all of them) Special thanks to Shanna who helped us plan our itinerary and assist with our restaurant reservation, also to the young man who checked us in (I am forgetting his name) and the concierge desk. They were all lovely to speak to and deserve a pat on the back for their conduct and excellent hospitality.
