Deteriorated room and disappointing breakfast that tastes like flight meal

I had high expectation with evergreen due to its high rating, but I was so disappointed in the end. After my booking I have written to the hotel, informing them that I need a quiet room with deep cleaning and no weird smell at all. I was assigned 1201. The room was indeed quiet. 1. The hotel lobby did not smell as nice what reviews mentioned. It smelled like cheap air freshener. The corridor outside the room, however smells much betters 2. As nobody contacted me about my arrival time, I messaged them myself. When I entered the room, the aircon was not on. and the room smells of mildew. I had to switch on the aircon to a super low temperature and asked the stuff to bring a fragrance reed diffuser, same as their corridor. After a few hours, the smell went away. 3. The room furnitures have deteriorated so much. There were chips, scratches everywhere, on the cabinet door, tv console, chairs, door frame, taps and shower head. I was unprepared for this condition at all. 4. There was a small piece of paper shred on the bar counter when I entered. 5. The lobby stuff are a bit mechanical. There was no one asking me whether I needed a taxi throughout my stay. There were some good points in the room though. The water pressure was fantastic. shampoo smelled great. Bed linen and towels were clean. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. I specially chose a Taiwanese hotel so I could have ala carte Taiwanese breakfast as some of the YouTube videos suggested. I got a weird western breakfast, with sprinkle of Chinese dishes (braised minced pork and almond milk) and Japanese appetisers. I guessed the guests were more international and traditional, but I suspected more that they were trying to reduce cost. The breakfast looks like a flight meal with the worst inedible croissant I have ever tasted in all hotels I stayed at. Overall, Evergreen desperately needs a revamp and did not deserve the high rating it had.

Perfect based for a few days in Taipai

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe family room. The room was a good size and split basically into two rooms - a living room with sofa/chairs, then a bedroom area with 1 super king and 1 king sized bed, separated with a partition. Large bathroom with walk in shower, dual basins and spa bath (not working). The room was clean and well equipped. Furnishing were a bit dated in design but functional. Carpet had areas of light staining throughout the living area so could do with a replacement. Our room was located on the 12th floor. Bottled water and a couple of cans of soft drink was provided each day. There was no ambient noise, either from surrounding rooms, nor from city traffic. Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was a buffet - range of offerings was OK but nothing special - certainly enough to set us up for the day. Although breakfast was included in our room rate, when we arrived, the hotel advised us that it only covered 4 of us and there would be an additional charge for our youngest child (aged 8). There was nothing about this noted on the hotel's Booking.com site. We queried this with Booking.com and the hotel quickly reversed this position. The hotel is well located for access to a MTR (5 minute walk), with then easy access to all areas of Taipai. We would certainly stay again.

The Evergreen Laurel Hotel was a wonderful stay. We booked a Superior Suite, and the room was spacious, in good order -- with a well situated bed and spotless, and well-sized, bathroom. The nautical theme in this hotel adds to its overall appeal, and the overall room was nicely kept. The staff were immensely helpful and attentive, and ensured we were looked after. The hotel is well located in the hub of Taipei. Whilst not quite located near a MRT station, it is still generally quite accessible. We will be staying here again, that's for certain!

Just an awesome hotel in a great location. I stayed in room 803 with is a larger room than most. The hotel staff are very friendly and attentive. There is a metro station about a 5 min walk away and several stores including 7-11 and Carrefour within a couple of minutes walk. No street noises, no complaints at all. I would most definitely recommend this property and will stay there again whenever I am in Taipei.

Most comfortable hotel in Taipei

I travel to Taipei very frequently, and have tried most of the top hotels in the city. For sheer comfort, this is the best I’ve found. The rooms are immaculately clean. The decor is dated, but it’s actually quite charming and very well-kept. The bed is firm and the bedding is high-quality. The sofa in our room was wonderful - my partner napped on it! Service is top-notch and friendly. Good WiFi, small but well-equipped gym, and there are free washers and dryers available to guests. Rates are very reasonable relative to quality. The hotel is not sleek or flashy. There’s no trendy bar. But if your primary concern is comfort and quality sleep, this is as good as it gets.
