Good hotel for a couple of days in Milan

Nice hotel in a perfect location. It's a short walk to the Central Train Station and the major Metro Stations. It worked well for us on a 2-night stay in Milan, between landing at the airport and taking a train out to another city in Italy. Breakfast choices were good.

When we arrived the person at the drag wasn’t too friendly and in fact a bit rude. The breakfast is very disappointing and again the staff was looking down at us. The shower is a nightmare and it’s impossible to avoid getting the floor wet and everything else. Then the temperature is incredibly high when you arrive and we had to turn it off because we couldn’t change it to a normal winter room temperature.

The hotel is close to train station. The lobby has old world charm. There are a few restaurants close by. And the Duomo di Milan is only four or five stops away on the metro. Unfortunately, the hotel rooms need serious updating, especially the bathroom. The shower head is located on the side of the tub, which had your face and body practically up against the wall while showering. Breakfast is available, but with limited choices. And the gentleman behind the desk in the evenings ran hot and cold. Friendly and helpful when we checked in, but surly and silent the days after, as in no greeting or acknowledgment. The day gentleman had a much nicer demeanor. We were only there for a couple of days, so the hotel’s shortcomings were easy to overlook.

I have based my score on a simple cost/quality ratio. I really feel ripped off for the amount paid. The hotel is shabby and rundown. The desk staff were friendly enough but at no point did the disheveled porter offer to help with my (heavy) baggage. The bathroom fittings were barely fit for purpose. Windows did not have nets despite Milan being infested by mosquitoes. Given the lack of working AC or ventilation in the room I kept the window open and woke during the night covered in bites. To top it I was woken in the morning by hammering workmen in the room adjacent to mine.

This wonderful hotel is right by Milan Central Station, (2 min walk once you know you are going). The reception staff were very helpful. The best bit however was the room - it was huge with elegant, olde world decor that felt genuinely rather opulent. The bed was HUGE!! The bathroom was spacious and included a bath as well as a separate shower. As others have mentioned, UK/Europe adapters don’t work in the electric sockets so you do need to go down to reception to get an additional adapter, but this is not a big deal. It might be helpful to mention it to guests when they check in however. Breakfast was ok - they do provide a basket of gluten free buns and crackers for coeliacs like me which was helpful. The spread was pretty limited but adequate enough. The trade off for staying so close to the station is that it is a fair old hike to the main tourist attractions, about a 4 km walk. However a taxi ride organised by reception was only about 10 Euros each way.
