nice and relatively cheap place to stay in oslo. equipped clean rooms, friendly staff, hostel within walking distance to the city center

The room was basic but confortable. I needed a cheap room close to Oslo Sentrum, I had what I paid for. Staff is friendly (only the girl at my arrival was particularly unfriendly, then I met several people, helpful and kind) Good to know: you have to pay a deposit for basic items like glasses or cutlery.

I’ve stayed at MANY hostels all over the world, and I’m pretty easy pleased. This place however was so disappointing that I originally had 3 nights booked but changed my flight (paid so much to do this) so I could leave earlier. The rooms and hallways feel like a prison, they are plain, dull and old. There’s barely any signage so easy to get lost in the halls. The bunks have no privacy curtains or anything, no power sockets or reading lights. The rooms also have no lockers, so I felt really uneasy about leaving my valuables in the room when I was out and about. I booked a 4 person dorm. I was informed on arrival that they had overbooked the room and there were 5 people in my room (the there were 8 beds total). No discount or anything offered for the overbooking on their part, if I’ve paid and booked a 4 person dorm I expect to not have to share with more than 3 other people. Staff only told me the basics upon arrival (ie reception hours) but I had to figure the rest out for myself. Reading previous reviews it seems like the hostel have made no attempts to improve. Do yourself favor and don’t stay here, pay the extra money for something up to standard.

Worst place ever stayed. Review is longer but worth reading. I am a digital nomad hence experienced in the hostel area, and have worked in a hotel myself too. First of all the reception staff day and evening don't care at all about the guest. Worst attitude and work moral. She didn't help me with the door when I arrived with heavy bags, and she was not busy with a guest at this time; she just stood there like a fool with no empathy and looked at me. They give a speech with some practical details without caring if you understood or not, like a robot, give you a key, sheets to make your own bed and towel and if you try to ask a question answer with a strong attitude like leave me the f*** alone. No smile, no sense for service, humanity, no heart or soul in these people the whole stay. My last night the receptionist made a blunt threat to kick me out of the hostel if I don't follow the rules in a nasty way when I by accident tried to use the day entrance instead of night entrance. As I said, the staff has no soul, heart or understanding for her role as service staff whatsoever. I had a bad feeling the whole night after this encounter, couldn't sleep and was afraid from her after that. I am a digital nomad and have stayed in many hostels as you can see in my reviews and never had any reaction like that before. Expect a terrible stay if anything at all goes wrong here. Second of all rooms are dirty, stuffy and no space for your luggage almost, no lockers for your stuff, not enough space to hang jackets or used towels. They also put a kitchen in the DORMITORY ROOM, where the horrible reception staff suggested I stand and cook at 22.00 when I arrived in the evening and asked for a kitchen. No heart, soul or eye for what is appropriate apparently. This in effect means you have to prevent others from sleeping or resting if you wanna cook yourself, although there's really no space as people use the counters for storage. Horrible experience with too many people in one room. Third of all, you cannot use any lobby after 23.00 which the receptionist makes very clear in a "get the f*** away" way as mentioned. No talent for her job at all. Also lobby is very small for the number of people. Fourth of all I got bitten by bed bugs when I was there, a room on 4th floor. It doesn't seem to be a general problem there but I advice you stay away for this reason also as an infestation may be on its way there. Fifth of all too many regulations and restrictions around common things here: 200 NOK deposit to borrow kitchen tools, have to ask for key for lobby toilet at reception and they don't accept cash at all and don't care if that means you can't buy something really important for you; no advise where else you can go to buy it, just the general "I don't care" attitude these people have saying they don't take cash, staring at you like you're a freak. Sixth of all some weird homeless people in the area. All in all worst experience in my life in a hostel or service establishment of some sort. I feel so disappointed, disgusted and humiliated that they got my money, anyone deserves better than heartless robots and stinky dorms with no space and people keeping each other from sleeping cooking in the "bedroom".

Terrible "Hostel"

The management of this hostel has behaved miserably with me. I paid for a private room for 3 days and paid a deposit of 200 crowns for the loan of kitchen tools. The night before leaving, I asked the reception how I should proceed with it in the morning before 7, since my train left soon for Stockholm, as well as with the towels and sheets. They told me to return them to the reception. In the morning not only was there no one at reception, but the doors were closed. I had to leave the hostel through the emergency doors, and without knowing how to return the kitchen utensils and sheets, I went all the way around the outside of the hostel, and through another side door (especially in case you arrive late) I was able to leave the kit in the front door of the reception, everything clean and in good condition 10 minutes before the reception opened (at 6:50 am). I sent them a message asking for an explanation, and telling them what happened. They responded to me 4 days later telling me that pots and pans were missing (when there was only one of each) and that everything was dirty, and therefore they would not return my deposit. This lie has really pissed me off, and even though it is only 200 crowns, I have already taken action with my bank, and I inform you to be careful in this place, unprofessional, and use of lies. They lie to protect their interests. Management not professional and empathetic. Reception of the hostel is amateur. And also I have to add that I was waiting two days for the technician to fix the kitchen extractor/fan, and they weren't able to fix it. The Wifi does not reach the room either.
