Operating out of its hub at Cairo International Airport, EGYPTAIR is the flag carrier of Egypt and a member of the Star Alliance. On 11th July 2008, it became the 21st member of Star Alliance.
The aviation company was established in May 1932, under the Misr Airwork brand name. In 1935, during the Second World War, the Egyptian Government took over the airline and it was renamed as Misr Airlines. In 1946, there was again a change in the name and it was renamed as MisrAir. In 1960, MisrAir was merged with Syrian Airlines. This gave way to the formation of United Arab Airlines (UAA). In 1969, UAA became the first airline in the Middle East to fly Boeing 707s. In 1971, with the split between MisrAir and Syrian Airlines, EGYPTAIR came into existence.

The airline’s fleet details are - A320-232s, A321-231s, A330-243s, A330-300s, A340-212s, B737-500s, B737-800s, B777-200s & B777-300s.
The airline is known for its excellent in-flight services. It serves special meals that suit all cultures and religions of the world. Special meals are provided on-board to people who have allergies towards artificial seasoning, spices or synthetic coloring.
It also provides passengers with the option of shopping custom free items while they are on board. The airlines’ frequent flyer program is called EGYPTAIR Plus. Members may earn miles by flying on EGYPTAIR Airlines and other Star Alliance member airlines. These miles may be redeemed for reward tickets on EGYPTAIR Airlines and other Star Alliance member airlines flights.
THE EGYPTAIR baggage allowance policy states that each passenger is allowed to board two pieces of luggage for first and business class as well as economy class. The maximum weight per piece is 32 kgs for the former and 23 kgs for the latter. Policy on checked luggage is different for cardholders.
