This includes the famous incident at the Amarjeet Hotel where the guests were petrified when the hotel lights were randomly switched off and turned on repeatedly. Other incidents at Dow Hill include a headless body wandering near the woods, the voice of a female singing and children playing, and daunting eyes looking at guests from a distance.

2. Hotel Brij Raj Bhavan, Kota

Brij Raj Bhavan was a palace, built in the 19th century, and was converted into a heritage hotel in 1980. It is considered to be one of the spookiest hotels in India. A friendly ghost of Major Burton – an English officer who was killed by the Indian sepoys in the mutiny of 1857 is said to stroll on the property. Rumour has it that Major Burton’s ghost occasionally slap the guards who sleep on duty.

3. Hotel Raj Kiran, Lonavala

For those seeking a relaxed yet spooky weekend from Mumbai, Hotel Raj Kiran is at 2 hours’ get away from the city. Experts on paranormal activities have confirmed the hotel is amongst the most active haunted hotel in India. A room in the corner behind the reception on the ground floor is claimed to be haunted. The hotel has often received complaints from the guests whereby their bed sheets have been pulled off while they were asleep, seeing blue light flashes at their feet. The hotel stopped renting out this particular room for quite some time now.

4. Trident Hotel, Mumbai

Trident Hotel at Nariman Point has checked all the boxes when it comes to being a haunted hotel in India. Whether it is the 13th floor, unnatural sounds or paranormal sightings, the list goes on and on. To one’s surprise, the hotel does not even have a 13th floor in the building! The elevator takes the guests directly to the 14th floor by skipping the number 13, altogether. Due to the 13th association with evil, it has often been a subject of discussion when it comes to ghostly stories.

5. Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai

Legend has it that Jamshedji Tata was once denied permission to enter the Watson Hotel by the British. Facing this brazen discrimination, Mr Tata got the hotel’s architectural plan made by W.A. Chambers. When Chambers returned from his England trip, he found that the hotel did not follow the architectural plans which he designed. The architect committed suicide by jumping from the 5th floor of the hotel. It is believed that Chambers’ ghost still walks in the Old Wing of the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, making it a hotspot among haunted hotels in India.

6. Hotel Fern Hill, Ooty

Hotel Fern Hill, Ooty became popular during the shooting of the Bollywood horror thriller, Raaz. The hotel was permanently shut down due to paranormal activities. It is told that the choreographer Saroj Khan and her crew woke up one night upon hearing the noise of rearrangement of furniture on the first floor. They tried contacting the reception, but the line was dead. Next morning, the receptionist pointed out that there was no first floor in the hotel. It is thus considered to be one of the spookiest hotels in India.

7. Morgan House Tourist Lodge, Kalimpong

Morgan House Tourist Lodge, Kalimpong is a heritage house. The Lodge is located in the tiny hill station of Kalimpong, West Bengal and was built in the 1930s by George Morgan. Mr Morgan lived there until the death of Lady Morgan. It is regarded as one of the haunted hotels in India as the ghost of Lady Morgan haunts the house. There are stories whereby people have heard voices of somebody walking in high-heels in the wooden corridors.

8. Hotels around Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad

Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad is quite a famous destination. However, it is said to have been built on the battlefield of the Nizams. 10. Hotel Savoy, Mussoorie

Hotel Savoy Mussoorie has hosted striking statues and the eerie temperament of a hill station. It is said to be home to the ghost of Lady Garnet Orme. At the hotel, Lady Orme is said to be murdered by adding strychnine in her medicine bottle. Later, the doctor who was tending her was also found dead in the same manner.
