Say NO to the Tryst

I have seldom encountered such strange hosts and wonder why they would even open their home to travellers, as they clearly have no interest in them. Dr Rao is an

extremely pretentious Indian doctor and his wife is from Liverpool, where they spend several months of the year in what she calls a 'static home'.
Dr R's books are on a stand as you enter the house, though there is so much junk around we didn't notice them for a day or two. The whole place is stuffed to the gills with things they have collected and made us feel rather unnerved.
What we most objected to were the notices in the rooms: dirty jokes beside the handbasin and a long list of dos and dont's on the wall. The latter contained comments like 'Take care in the bath, but if you slip and break something that's your problem'.
They are both heavy smokers and smoke in front of you whether you like it or not. Dr R in particular is very controlling and likes to provoke his guests. He wore the same clothes for the 3 days we were there - including a tweed cap which he even wore at dinner.
We had the Egyptian room which contains so much bric a brac we kept losing things. The en suite bathroom has a steel roof and is more like an outhouse.
On a happier note, the garden is magnificent.

Great for relaxing and walks in the midst of nature

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tryst homestay and even extended it by an extra night instead of a planned night in Ooty. We were looking for somewhere

to relax in the midst of nature and that is exactly what we got. We loved our Egyptian themed room, had some great walks in the tea gardens (we even encountered cows amongst the tea!) and were impressed with the food and hospitality. We had a couple of day trips organised for us by the Tryst owner – 1 to Ooty and 1 around Coonoor and thoroughly enjoyed both. They were both with a car for the day (Ambassador) and a very knowledgeable driver who gave us a good tour of both towns. The eccentric owner, Dr Rao, shared some entertaining stories and views with us over pre-dinner drinks and 4-course dinners and we found we were laughing for most of our stay!
The only downside was Dr Rao telling us our holiday plans were flawed which made us doubt what we’d booked for the rest of our holiday and we even tried to change some of them based on his recommendations – we are glad we didn’t succeed, as the Jungle Lodges safari in BR Hills wildlife park that we went to afterwards was another highlight of our holiday!

if you like something exceptional you should go. It´s a unique homestay nicely located outside Coonoor surrounded by tea plantations. Yes, the owners are a bit excentric and demanding, but
