Really, a fantastic hotel. The location is IDEAL if you are working at Airbus, because it is close and there is a free bus just outside the parking lot that

can get you to Airbus in a 10 minutes or so, depending on your stop within the campus. For the city, it's not great, but it's not impossible - the Rueschpark ferry stop is right out the door, literally. It can take about 40 minutes to get in to the city, but it's a nice ride.
The entire place feels new, clean, and welcoming. It's modern, but still comfortable. My room had a view of the river, which is perfect. I highly recommend getting a river view room, even if it is more expensive (mine was not). Being able to watch the big ships come by all day and night (and overnight) is a pleasure, as well as just the general view of the river from your room.
Staff are extremely helpful and their English is generally fantastic. Breakfast is huge, and well worth the price as it has many options. Dinner in the bar area is also quite good, with a small but satisfying menu and some good beers (along with the river view). The regular restaurant - I did not try it for dinner, but I have heard it was very good with a bigger menu and same view.
There is WiFi throughout but it apparently has a limit. I used the wired connection in my room and it was free and very fast.
On the 6th floor (top) there is a nice, small gym with good equipment and some TVs. I do wish it overlooked the river instead of the parking, but that's okay. There is also a nice sauna which I wish I had a chance to use. It looked very relaxing.
One negative is I can only find 1-2 English TV channels, and while my German is good, I occasionally would like to watch some English TV. It's just news. Oh, and another is that there is no iron in the room.

I suppose I'm well qualified to rate this hotel because I've been staying here for the last seven months with my job. The Rilano Hotel is not in the nicest

area of Hamburg but what sets it apart from any other hotel is it's position. It sits on the banks of the River Elbe and the views from the River side rooms are excellent. The largest ships in the world pass so close and the river is a fascinating and entertaining.
The rooms are very comfortable and its worth paying the extra 25 euros for the riverside because apart from the views the rooms are generally bigger and have a nicer layout. All rooms are equipped with Flat screen TVs, fridge and safe and some also have microwave ovens. There are French windows which open with a guard rail for safety and in summer its really lovely having a glass of wine and looking out over the river, the Queen Mary 2 sailed past nearly every week last summer and you couldn't get a better view anywhere else in Hamburg, I think.
The staff in the hotel are really nice and friendly and go out of their way to help you with any problem you may have. The menu is fine if you're on a short stay but can be tedious when you're here for as long as I've been. If you have a special request and the restaurant is not to busy they will be happy to prepare something for you which isn't on the menu.
The other great thing about the Rilano is that it has it's own ferry terminal at the back of the hotel, the ferry takes about 40 minutes into central Hamburg (via Finkenwerder) or you can go to Teufelsbrucke which is on the opposite side of the river and if you like walking there is a promenade which takes you into Hamburg (walking about 1 hour) or in the opposite direction to the most afluent area of Blankenese (walking about 1 hour). Whichever way you go its a lovely stroll and traffic free, watch out for people on Bikes though (nearly everybody in Hamburg rides a bike in the summer). Buses are also available from Teufelsbrucke. The No. 286 takes 5 minutes to Othsmarschen and the S1 Rail line is next to the bus terminal, here you can get to the best locations in Hamburg and it also goes directly to Hamburg Airport for 3 euros.
Also the transport system in Hamburg is excellent and very easy, cheap (5 euros a day will take you anywhere you want to go in the Greater Hamburg area on buses, trains and ferries).

(30 minutes by taxi) to the city and there's a ferry stop conveniently located just outside the hotel. The last ferry back to the hotel is 9pm (the timetable might be seasonal) so getting back after this means buses or taxi.
The room was very modern, plenty of space with a lovely view over the river Elbe. The only thing letting the room down was the TV.
The bar and restaurant are good. The front desk and bar/restaurant staff are very helpful but the food is a little over priced when compared with other hotels in the centre.
