We stayed there recently and it was an amazing experience. This place would remind you of a English cottage Inn as this was apparently a school which was renovated, rather tastefully, by Taj. There are plenty of such places in Ooty/Coonoor but what made the difference is the service. The entire team was fantastic and in particular the guys at the restaurant (Richard, Anand and Anand Kumar) who looked after us during our stay deserve special credit! We stayed at the suite which was very luxurious and had lots of character! Food was lovely and there were small touches such as the salads made from vegetables from the Garden etc!
My only comment and this is to the Taj group - In this day and age, I'm shocked that free wireless internet was not offered! Just a small touch which would score plenty of brownie points. Also would be worth considering a pool as this would be a massive sell with kids!
Just to summarise, it was the staff who made this place one of my favourite! Highly recommended!

We stayed here during May 2013. The property is beautifully located in the nature. This is almost a 150 years old property and still maintains that old world charm. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and all the garland and fanfare. The staff was extremely warm, cordial, courteous and welcoming. Many of the times we felt the staff go beyond their way to help you out. They provide good quality bicycles, badminton racket, cricket stuff etc. on the lawn. The gardening and the lawn is very well done and we spent most of our time in the lawn under the huge old shadowy trees. This was a memorable experience. Its a child friendly resort with lot of activities for kids to do swings, merry go round etc. The activity studio has TT, Carrom, Snooker and Foosball. All the amenities are quality and enjoyable. The breakfast, lunch and dinner spread is pretty exhaustive and would surely suit everybody's tastes in one form or the other. The Chef typically moves around the dining area during meal time and occasionally you could catch up a chat with him. Very non assuming and warm person. This was beginning of May but the weather was beautiful in fact nights were slightly chilly. There was bonfire every night. Once there was sort of a live music. One night they played IPL match on a big screen in the conference hall. Once you are in this place, you don't have to go out at all. Just laze, chill and relax in nature to wake up to the beautiful chirping of the birds in the morning.

It was in beginning of March 2013, that we decided to take a break from Bangalore and I would say we would never regret our decision to stay at this heritage property instead of staying at Ooty. Place is near to the city centre, still quiet and peaceful.
It took us a few minutes to locate the place, but once there, it was pure bliss. We were welcomed with some nice local flower garlands and Warm Spice / Tea based welcome drink served was absolutely amazing.
At the time of check-in we were upgraded to a Superior Room from Standard Room. Room was large with nice study, coffee table with books, huge bedroom and a huge bathroom along with a small dressing room with wardrobes. Bedroom had a nice fireplace which was functional and was like the cherry on the top.
They had 3 well kept lawns and had ample of space to roam around and do just nothing. They also had a spa, a yoga room and small gym to keep you fit. They even had a small place where they grew veggies and stuff for consumption in the restaurant. You could just sit in the lawn enjoy morning tea and then read in the sun throughout the day. They used to organize bonfires in the lawn everyday and also had fun activities magic show, housie, etc. for kids and families on many days.
The restaurant was nice with a good choice on the buffet. The restaurant manager would always be around to check and make sure that the guests were comfortable. Even though choice of selections on the menu was limited, but he would always offer to get us anything outside of the menu, so we never felt that the menu is limited.
The housekeeping always made sure that the rooms were kept nice and clean. During the evening turndown we would find nice small flower by the bedside with some small wisdom notes as a gesture from the housekeeping.
And, Yes not to forget the feel of having live fireplace with amazing fire to keep you warm was just out of the place.
All in all stay worth mentioning and remembering…

We stayed at this hotel for couple of days. The standard room that we stayed in had couple of rooms with a spacious bathroom. The food was amazing !!! Dont miss the authentic local fare... The hotel is near the shopping center and is extremely convinient. All in all, an amazing place for a great getaway...

We stayed here for 2 days. The service is one of the fantastic. The food is really good.. and i happened to discuss with the chief cook. You should also try the Ayurvedic spa here. Only one of the suggestion that i have is the children play area can be improved little.. could be some more play items for the kids. (not the grown up kids !!! ;) )

The Gateway, Coonoor provides a very unique feel of a heritage hotel combined with the comfortable atmosphere. Throughout our stay we felt at home with the excellent service from the hotel staff. The only lack of attention we encountered was when a staff member came to lit up the fireplace in our room and placed the wood near the edge of fireplace causing some smoke to come into the room however that was quickly remedied, the smell of smoke lingered.Barring that one instance, they provided great service, great food and very clean rooms!

Quite a decent place to stay, calm & peaceful. Although need some more activities for families & kids. Need to add more services to offer good value of money. Cleartrip website shows a swimming pool in the property however there's no Swimming pool there.
