I find it surprising that Lonely Planet has listed Hotel Aroma in Chandigarh, India as a good place to stay. My experience there was terrible. We pre-booked via the internet

for two days. Changes to our travel plans meant that we wanted to stay a third day. When we called they had no record of our prebooking. After several calls back and lengthy waits on hold we thought we were sorted. When we got there, they now had a record of our pre-booking, but not of our reservation for the additional night. They then took my passport for registration and did not return it in a timely manner. Our rooms were opposite the 24-hour dining room (all rooms in this hotel back out onto the dining room) and next to their very loud kitchen. When we checked out, they had again lost the record of our pre-booking and wanted us to pay for the two nights we had already paid for. In summary this hotel is badly designed and badly run. There are cheaper hotels in Chandigarh that are much better.

travelling alone, and felt perfectly safe. Not all the staff speak English, but they always found someone who did to answer my questions.
The decor in my interior room was warm and friendly, the hardwood floor a very welcome change to the usual cold tiled floors I found everywhere else in India. The room was comfortable and clean. The food in the restaurant was tasty and inexpensive. There were shops just around the corner selling most things you might need. A bus to/
from Amritsar left directly from the hotel twice a day. I paid 1800 rupees/night including breakfast.

you speak hindi and don't need neither any help nor a smile, dont go there!!!
Staff is useless and doesn't make sure that your stay is great, they dont care at all, you are just a cash machine and also they are not really honest.
I always had a bad impression when I was asking for change.
And they were talking in hindi or punjabi and making fun about clients.
My hindi was not great enough so I used to speak in english but they didnt know I could understand a bit....
I spent only 2 days but because of them, I was not really in a good mood to enjoy the city and I left with a rather bad impression.
When I left , they took my money and didnt even ask if I was happy and goodbye! You pay, you leave and that's it!!
Rooms are ok but not exceptionnal, I was expecting something better.
I'm sure there are better hotel in Chandigarh and I dont recommand this one at all.
